Photo Number 411

Happy New Year Everyone!  Lets start the New Year out with a bang..well how about a old photo that includes a gun?

Kid with Gun Real Photo Postcard Dorset This is a NOKO Real Photo Postcard, they date from 1907 to 1920.  I have a photo of my Father in Law from 1916 where he is wearing similar knickers and coat and even his haircut is the same so that is the year I will pick to date this postcard. Apparently the gun was a studio prop to keep the child occupied, it also looks like this is a photo that was taken outdoors…someplace warm I would guess from the fan palms that are on the right side of the photo.

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Dorset, Minnesota.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

  1. I don't know about keeping the child occupied, looks like he might shoot the photographer if he doesn't get a move on.
Happy New Year to you, I hope that 2011 is a great year.

  4. Now there is a photo that seems to be just a bit... odd. She is a beautiful woman and so nicely dressed - and the kid strikes me as wee bit bratty in strange clothes and the bowl cut hair! I see the plants and think Florida or maybe Georgia with the pines and palms and sandy, thin soil.

    Happy New Year!!!

  5. Another charming photograph that ends up being a mystery because it didn't get labeled. I suppose many people didn't feel a need to label a photo because they knew the subjects. How could they foresee that they would end up in an antique store, or garage sale, or trunk in someone's attic? Of course, there was no such thing as internet and blogs, so I am sure they'd be blown away if they could come back for a day. ;-) ~Abra

  6. I think the plant on the right is a Yucca. I use to have one that lived for many years in my grandmother's Lincoln, Nebr yard before I brought part of it to my SE Conn. yard. It moved with me to South Carolina, and Washington state before moving here to Arizona. While in Wash we sent part of it to live in Wisconsin. The plant did well in all the locations. I believe they are hardy as far north as zone 4 so the photo could be from just about anyplace.

  9. With the look on the childs face I bet he was a hand full but I think from the mothers look she could handle him.
