A man with his horses and his home in the background.  Looks like he was going out to rake hay.

We have two names Gustav Clauson and Annie Clauson

The postcard was used from 1904 to 1918.

Full Circle 128

This Full Circle began with a comment left on the blog.  I have the blog set to notify me of comments that are older than three days…so that I won’t miss anyone showing up and leaving a comment!

Not sure if this posted the first time, but will try it again! I do believe the people in the photo to be first cousins to my great-grandfather, Hugh Rutherford Heiney (1878-1960). Hugh's mother was Maria (Rhumstay) Hiney (1842-1914), and Maria's sister, Sarah (Rhumstay) Hoxie (1846-??), was the mother to Welcome, William, Dora, Frank, Delia, Celia, Esther and Ralph Hoxie. Maria and Sarah's parents were William and Esther (Rapp) Rhumstay. The family came to Wisconsin from Pennsylvania in 1845, settling first in Dane County, then in Sauk County. What a great picture! :)

No one else had claimed the photo so I asked Ben if he would like it.

Yes, those definitely are photos of my grandpa, Norman Lee.  Although I believe I already have a copy of both of those photos; my sister, Brenda, most likely does not.  I can't figure out how they ended up in an antique shop!  Some of the writing on the postcard is my mom's but I just can't imagine her getting rid of any photos - as I recently inherited several hundred old photos of people I don't know when my mom passed away in May.

Hi Melody,  I bought the postcards from the Antique Mall in Detroit Lakes...who knows how they got there? 

I work with a fabulous researcher from Pennsylvania...he can find almost anyone...not sure how.  Most likely from your Mothers Obituary and he went from there.  I was surprised the email still worked to locate you as sometimes people change their e mail addresses. 

I will put the postcards in the mail to you tomorrow.  I will send them to the address in your email. 

Please let me know when they have arrived safely and if you could share a story about your Grandfather that would be great!

Photos Number 2010  Norman and Ernest Lee

Hi Connie,

I received the photos - thank you so very much.  What a wonderful hobby you have.  I'm sure you have made many people happy!

My grandpa, Norman Lee, was a very quiet and unassuming man.  He worked hard all his life - mostly as a carpenter and as a miner in the iron mines near Crosby-Ironton.  His parents came over from Norway before he was born.  Their last name actually was Andresen; however, after they got to the states his father changed their name to Lee because there were so many Andresens and Andersons in the area.  Grandpa would talk Norwegian to my sister and me and laugh because we didn't have a clue what he was saying.  He got a kick out of it anyway!  My grandma, Rose Lee, was as boisterous as grandpa was quiet.  More proof that opposites attract.  LOL!

I have attached a photo taken on the day my mom was adopted by my Grandpa and Grandma Lee in the early 40s.

This is a photo from the Tin Ceiling in Park Rapids Minnesota.

A young lady with perfect finger waves, a very popular hairstyle in the late 1920’s into the 1930’s.  The Marcel Iron was used to make the waves or if you were talented enough you could make your own finger waves providing your hair was wet and you could get it to dry in place.

The gentleman’s cap is called a newsboy cap or a driving cap. This photo is probably from the late 1920’s to early 1930’s.

A family with the cutest little girls with bows in their hair.  Most likely this photo was taken about 1900.  Sadly it is not marked.

This is a Cabinet Card from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

Fallman was the photographer in a Parlor Photo Car.  Photographers that could afford to rent or purchase a railroad car would travel from town to town, the car could be disconnected and move on when ever the client base dried up.  It must have been a real novelty…especially if you had never had your photo taken before.

I think that the two littlest boys look just like their father and the older boy just like his mother.

I will guess that this photo is taken in the late 1880’s.  Sadly there is no identification.

I am so proud to have my face on the same card with Ray Pollick that I must send one.  Isn’t it fine ha ha Mum?

This is an AZO card that dates sometime from 1904 to 1918.

I wonder which gal wrote on the card?  Several look quite pleased with themselves.  It must have been some kind of musical event.

E.T. Braaten was the photographer in Gol, Hall (Norway)

Bergit has lovely trim on the bottom of her gown, her gloves and on the bodice of her gown.  When I first looked at this CDV I though oh an old lady…not so..she might be 20-25 years old.

This seems to be a Bergit K. Gurigaard who emigrated from Ål in Hallingdal to St. Peter MN in 1890. She was then 26 years old and unmarried.

Translation: 21.06.1863-1905. Married to Andreas Lybeck and lived in Minnesota. Children: Adolf, Oskar, Kristine. Andreas and his sons moved to Sylvan Lake, Alta, Canada, in 1914.

There is (I think) only one farm called Gurigard in Norway, in Leveld in Ål in Hallingdal (not far from Gol in Hallingdal, in the mountains in south of Norway). 

The photographer worked as a photographer in Gol from about 1890 to 1906.

Jacob L. Skrivseth was the photographer he moved to Hillsboro N.Dak. in 1882 and opened a Studio there.   The photographer was also the Mayor of the town.

This is a snapshot from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

Band concert/practice someplace.  Community Bands used to be a big thing, people would get together and play music sometimes to dance and sometimes they would march in parades.  My husbands Grandfather played in a community band in the early 1900’s.

The only record I can find for Oral and Mable Whitmore is on the 1901 school enrollment record at Tilford, McPherson Co, South Dakota. They were listed as 8 and 6 years old and their father's name as Ed Whitmore.

Joseph Zeni is buried at Bear Butte Cemetery Meade County SD  Joseph Zeni and his wife lived in Sturgis SD - and this is only 9 miles from where the Whitmore boys were located in Tilford SD.

This is a Real Photo Postcard from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

Looks like two women, three children and a man on the porch.  There is a baby buggy and a bicycle in the yard and the house has four lightening rods.  The house looks like it has a basement too.

Kind of a ghostly figure in the upper window too…or is it my imagination?

Gehard Olaf Baarstad August 4 1885 to April 15 1962. Gehard married Clara O. Harland They had a number of children, Gaylon, Lawerence, Erling, Edmund, Milton, Esther and Ruth.  This home in the photo may be near Nome ND.

Six gals more than likely friends.  The photo was most likely taken 1910 give or take a few years.  Some of the gowns/blouses are very pigeon breasted.

T.J.Helgeson was the photographer in Lake Mills Iowa

A family photo with  parents and five children.  Looks like quite an age span between the girls and the boys.  The littlest child could be either a boy or a girl. This photo was most likely taken in the late 1880’s.

I am pretty sure this is [e]Stella M Perkins, born in Iowa on 11 Jan 1907 and living in Little Sioux, Harrison, Iowa in 1910 with her parents, Minor Newton and Ella Perkins.

Little Sioux is 4 miles from Orson, Iowa.

The photographer was Bowman & Lyden of Fergus Falls Minnesota,  Edna S Bowman was the photographer located at 107 1/2 Mill Street North in Fergus Falls.  The second pose most definitely shows a woman’s touch.
