This must be a photo of a child, mother and  maybe a friend or a sister, the other woman doesn’t look old enough to be the grandmother.  Too bad this photo is not marked.  I will point out that both ladies are wearing wedding bands, the lady on the right is carrying gloves and the lady pushing the carriage wears a double buttoned blouse…possibly for ease of nursing her baby.

It is a Real Photo Postcard from 1904 to 1918.  The ladies look all set to travel someplace.

Gertrude and Mervin?

Carlson in Ogden IA was the photographer.

Gertrude seems to be wearing Pince Nez glasses.  The chain you see going into her hair was most likely attached to an ear hook that went partially around her ear.   Other methods of attachment of that chain were by hair pin, or a brooch worn on a dress or apron that retracted the ribbon or chain when not in use.  Men’s  Pince Nez might be tied to a buttonhole or lapel.

Funny thing I have a friend by the last name of Carlson that still lives in Ogden Iowa.  I wonder if they are related to the photographer.

I think this is Gertrude Sarah "Gertie" nee' Conn Jones (1887 - May 21, 1964  and her son, Mervin Dale Jones (Feb. 9, 1917 - Dec. 19, 1987
"Gertie"'s husband was Jacob "Jake" Albert Jones 

From the obituaries Mervin married Dorothy and they had a son and a daughter.  Mervin was an Auctioneer.

Ellen Ford and son

Hall was the photographer  at 170 E. Madison St. in Chicago

Ellen seems to be holding something in her hands…something all rolled up.  Her gown appears to have dropped shoulders, typical of the fashions in the late 1860’s.  I can also see her ears which usually indicates the later part of the 1860’s or early 1870’s.  Her hair is also parted in an unusual way, I haven’t see that “do” before.

Ellen Ford nee Hooker (abt 1837 in England), the wife of Cornelius Ford and son Clayton E. Ford (abt 1861 in Wisconsin)

Both Cornelious and Clayton were carpenters. Clayton married Elizabeth C. Pilgrim on 23 Dec 1885 in Cook County, Illinois.

In the 1920 US Census, he is shown living in Chicago with Wife Elizabeth, and children, Whitfield Ford age 28, and Gertrude Ford age 25.

Edward Odean Senior (Jun 1879 - lived in Parkers Prairie, Otter Tail, Minnesota) and Nellie Johnson (29 Apr 1884 in MN - 25 Mar 1971 in Los Angeles) had Edward H Jr. on 18 Oct 1911. He married Mary Elizabeth Pettijohn and later died on 7 Jan 1997 in Union City, Alameda, CA. They had a daughter named Mary in 1939. Edward Jr. was an accountant/controller.

"Inez R.M. Jensen, age 93, formerly of Edgeley, ND, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012, in Auburn, AL, where she resided the past three years.

Inez Ruth Marie Fevold was born on December 3, 1918, on a farm outside Edgeley in LaMoure County, ND, the second child and only daughter of Martin and Bertha (Olson) Fevold. She was raised on the family farm outside Edgeley, residing on the same site her entire life until moving to Auburn in 2009."

"Clarence Harley Jensen was born on March 17, 1923 on a farm outside of Berlin in LaMoure County, ND, the third child and oldest son of Hans and Clara (Oleson) Jensen. He was raised on the family farm outside Berlin and attended Wano Township #1 School.

Clarence married Inez Ruth Marie Fevold, daughter of Martin and Bertha (Olson) Fevold, on June 3, 1951. June 3, 2011, marked their 60th anniversary."

No doubt this snapshot was taken in the 1940’s.   The carriage appears to be made out of wood and some type of fabric with a sheen to repel water.  It is a deeper stroller, the baby  had a great place to nap.

From Iggy: Emma Waldren had a sister named Lavena\Lavina  Alvena (b. 1853 and about a year older than Emma)

Vene Alvena was born in 1852 so the year this photo was taken should be around 1889.  That means her child was born in 1887 or 1886.
Back to Emma.

The year  was about 1889.  Perhaps she and Alvena went to the photographer the same day..perhaps together.

36 years old
Hair had just grown out, after being bald, after Hazel was born.
Ok lets back up.  Emma was supposedly married to Sol Haslam in 1868.  Moved to Sacramento in 1872.  Was unmarried ( divorced ?) In 1881 or 1882 we had the not married photo.  Now she has given birth to Hazel in..1889..How about April of 1890.

Hazel Rackerby nee Ferguson (b. 28 Apr 1890 in California d. 8 Jan 1961) mother appears to have been Emma J Ferguson nee Waldren. There are "hints" that Emma was married Solomon Haslam. I'm thinking Solomon was married more than once - once to Emma and once to Anna.
Emma must have married J. H Ferguson… First name is James (Thanks Jacqi)

J.H. Ferguson unknown year.

He sent Hazel a Postcard from New York  ..in 1907 I think.

It was postmarked Washington DC September 9  at 8PM   07.

Ah. A breakthrough. Lavina's name was mis-recorded in a number of census. Her name was Alvena. Alvena married a Henry McCausland and was soon widowed. In 1910 she and Pearl were living with her parents Ashby Thomas and Elizabeth Waldren/Waldron.

Pearl married Roy Bratton (b. abt 1889 in Kentucky) and Alvena lived with them in 1920. Roy and Pearl had Elaine (1916), Nadeen and Zelpha (twins 1917).

Pearl was born 17 Jul 1888 and died 4 Jan 1953 in Sacramento.

Zelpha Orion Bratton born August 5 1918 died August 23 1944.

Nadeen Bratton died on 10 Sep 2011. 

Info for Ben Wilson:
There is a Ben S Wilson born 1857 living in Tuolumne County, California in 1898 and in 1900 in Sacramento. He is listed as single in 1900.

This week we will look at some photos that I think are twins.  Years ago twins were lucky to both survive..because one was almost always breech.  My Great Grandmother was a twin.  I have an Uncle and Aunt that are twins, twin cousins, and a pair of great nephews that are twins.

This snapshot is from the Antique Shop in Solway Minnesota.  It was marked August 5, 1923.
