What ever do you think was the occasion to get so many flowers.  Her Birthday?  It looks like every bunch of flowers has a notecard.

This gold trimmed cabinet card was popular in the 1880’s.  During that time the studio name was often in large cursive style taking up the entire back of the card.

It is almost Cabinet Card size but not quite..it is shorter that a standard Cabinet Card.

The wings on the sleeve of this gown give the date away.  1895.

born 15 May 1883 in Rabun County, Georgia
died15 Aug 1972 in Deer Park, Harris, Texas

Letha was the daughter of Alfred Ervin Dickerson and Matilda A Justice both of Rabun County Georgia. She was the 4th of seven children. She married twice: 1st husband Charles Lafayette Rickman they were the parents of one daughter Mildred Lea Rickman (1913-1993) after Mr. Rickman's death in 1920 she married Harvey Franklin Dickerson grandson of Obediah T. Dickerson (Letha was the great granddaughter Obediah T. Dickerson). Letha is the beloved mother of my mother in love Naomi Dickerson Sanders (born 1925). I never met Letha but my husband and Naomi speak of her daily. She was an accomplished organist and pianist. She loved to garden. She loved to cook and was a splendid chef. She adored her two beautiful daughters. Mildred never had any children but Naomi had two children and Mrs Letha Dickerson lived with Naomi and her husband and their two children and Harvey Franklin Dickerson(1863-1948) brother Dillard (1866-1960) until her death in 1972. Her family was her life and she love each of her family members to the fullest. Her grandchildren were adored by Letha. Their home brimmed with love. She was gentle and loving. I would have loved to have met this very special lady. She taught her family about the Lord, she loved without reservation and she made those around her feel adored.

Estelle D. Easterly was born in Fulton County, New York on 1 Apr 1871 to Thomas Stratton Easterly and Sarah Margaret Lauder. She passed away in 1949.

She married the widower William Smith Garnsey on September 24, 1900. He had two sons by a prior marriage:

I am pretty sure this is Minnie (Mary) Wishart (b. abt 1862). Her father, Dr. John Wilson Wishart (b. abt 1830), was a surgeon during the Civil War (he was very busy at Gettysburg where his unit suffered badly). They later lived in Pittsburgh, PA.

Minnie/Mary and her sister Alice never married and lived together in Pittsburgh, where they ran a "rooming house".

A gentleman with a three piece suit and a full beard with a moustache.  Bunnell from Decatur Tex was the photographer. The collar is formal and stiff, pressed into wings that were popular in the late 1890’s to 1900.
The back of the photo has lots of info.

Setrak Garaber Fullerson (b. 16 Jan 1871 in Turkey d. 11 Sep 1945 in Los Angeles). His daughter Margaruite was born 13 May 1896 in Texas and died 1 July 1996 in Orange County, California. The "mother" mentioned in the handwriting name was Maggie nee Dillon and she was born in Kentucky in October of 1872.

Setrak was a speculator in Oil. Margaruite married a Paul N. Webster (Dec. 4, 1901 - Oct. 9, 1983) (Find A Grave Memorial# 78269605)

Here is another Cabinet Card from Craig.

Starr is the photographer  at 210 N. Eighth St. Philadelphia.  The lady is wearing a celluloid hair clip, glasses, a locket and a frothy looking gown.  I will guess that this photo is from around 1895.

We know now that she had blue eyes and light brown hair.

  Her name was Julia A Daniels Later Mrs. Edw. S. Buckalew.

Julia A Buckalew (b. Jan 1868 in Pennsylvania) married Edward S., a train conductor in 1895.

The couple had daugher Myrtle (b. Oct 1896 d. 25 Mar 1901) and son Edward F. (b. 7 May 1903 d. 5 May 2001 in Ontario, San Bernardino, California)

Earlier this summer blog reader Craig shipped me a box of photos.  Most of them have names.
We will begin with this early Cabinet Card.

Aunt Lethea Dickerson

Craig made a connection with the family of this photo so I am mailing it off today to Dana in Texas.  I have requested that she share some info about Lethea.

This is an early cabinet card on thinner paper.  Most likely from around 1875.  The size of the head is sometimes a clue..this one measures 1.5 inches which dates it from 1866 to 1875.  The green card  was used from 1873 to 1910.  And yes the card is different colors on both sides (1880 to 1890).  Her hair is pulled back typical of the 1880’s and her ears show.  Her dress may have dropped shoulders..and a high neck bodice (1869 to 1876).

This is the information Craig had.

She married a farmer in between 1860 and 1880. He was a Confederate soldier. Letitia Elizabeth Dickerson was left a young(ish) widow on Oct. 18, 1899 when her husband died of a heart attack while plowing a field. 

The website I found that last comment's info on, states "Born Leticia Dickerson, she was disowned by her family when she decided to marry a Confederate soldier. She was left one dollar in her family will, according to family stories."

James wrote:

James was my 3rd great grandfather, the couple might be John White and Lucy White Frankenberry. The young man on the fence post with dog might be Earl White my Great Granfather. James was born in 1818 and died 1910 at the age of 92. His first wife was Anna Wolfe who died in 1884, he married a second time a Lottie Reed who died in 1906.

 And  a little more info!

James Frankenberry was born in Monongalia Virginia now West Virginia in 1818. He came to Ohio in the 1850's with his wife and nine children. He was a farmer and died 12 Jun 1910 in Liberty Twp Ohio. He is buried in Bennington Chapel cemetery Ohio. When he died he was living with his daughter Lucy White Frankenberry and John White his son in law. He married Anna Wolfe in 1839, she died 1884. He married a Lottie Reed in 1886, she died 1906. His children were Emaline, William, George, Susannah, James, Thomas, Eliza, Hannah, and Lucy.

James also wrote “Thanks, yes I received the photo.”

Anton Amundson was my grandfather and Ernest and Joel and Art Amundson were brothers like you found out. Edwin Ronningen was the brother of Emil's wife Marie like you mentioned and also the brother of Anna, my grandmother married to Anton Amundson. So Ernest, Art & Joel were double first cousins to my mother. The farm was originally settled by Amund Smikop Amundson and his wife Ronnaug. One of their daughters Ronnog (Rena) married Augustine Washington Wood and thus the farm became known as the Wood farm when they moved back to Rothsay and lived on the farm. Their son continued to live there and later it was owned by Ernest Amundson and then following his death by Joel Amundson. The farm is in Wilkin County near Rothsay, Minnesota. The house and the round barn are no longer on the property which is still in the family and now is owned by my cousin's son who has built a house there.

She was also kind enough to email a photo of the barn!

It is a beautiful round barn.

This is a Cabinet Card from the flea market near Wadena Minnesota.

Four children.  The photographer was Arthur A. Bentley.  He was in Sheldon N.D. only in 1902 so that is the year we will pick for this photo.

Some of these old Cabinet Cards fade easily especially if they are in the sunlight.  Every photographer had his own mix of photo paper and recipes..some were more successful than others.

The photographer Johnson was in Chicago at 113 E. Adams Street in 1892.  I can agree with this date for the photos.

The scalloped edges on the cabinet cards were popular during the 1890’s.

Now this was what I was excited about..a footstool with horns for legs.  This one is in the Historical Museum in Wadena Minnesota.  It is the only one I have seen  in this area.

The 1940 US census seems to indicate that Charles was born in 1912 and was living with his Uncle Edward C Aldrich in Champion Township, Wilkin, Minnesota.

It appears Charles' father was also Charles Edward and the father died in 1925.

The 1920 and 1930 US census show him living with his grandfather, James Aldrich.

Priscilla Charlotte Gisvold was born on August 1 1912 to Martin and Pauline Gisvold.  Nine years later a brother named Paul enters the family.  Priscilla died July 27 1998. 

Apparently Priscilla never married and lived in the Hennepin County area of Minnesota all her life.

Update from Iggy:
According to the 1940 US census, Priscilla Gisvold was single, 27 years old, and worked 48 hours a week as a saleslady at a retail department store in Minneapolis. Her father is shown as a Chiropractor. Her brother Paul (who may still be living at the age of 91 with his wife Dorothy in Minneapolis) is shown as 18 years old.

Meet Violet and Mearl

Dear Cosin,

These pictures were taken last summer on our back steps. Girlie has a spot on her eye but it is only a scratch on the picture but it is the only one I have left to spare.   Mearl was 3 yr. and 8 mo. Violet 2 yr. they are a lot bigger now.   Minnies and her family are living at Gracton near their claim.

The folks were all well last we heard we have not been home since xmas.  We always went home about every three weeks but the roads are so bad we are about eighteen miles from home and mostly across unsettled land.  Hope this finds you all well as it leaves us. Your Cousin  Esther

This week we will look at some cute kids.  This is a Real Photo Postcard from the antique shop in Erhard Minnesota.

The postcard is from  1904 to 1918.  Their mother must have spent a lot of time making all those ringlets in their hair.  We have two styles of high button shoes in this photo.  The little girl on the left is most likely wearing a pair of leather high button shoes.  The little boy is wearing more of a Victorian style high button that is two tone black and white.

For the record..I think that is a little boy on the right and I bet he was “real easy on the eyes”as an adult.

I bet there is a story behind the dog in a muzzle.  I wonder if he belongs to one of the ladies in the photo.   The ladies appear to be sitting on some kind of  wall or a wagon??   I think one is holding a camera.   This looks to me to be a snapshot from around 1910 or so.

This is a snapshot from the first antique shop in Dorset Minnesota.

A well dressed lady with a hat and an umbrella..she was determined not to get the sun on her face or to get wet.  The dress has a pleated bodice that extends down past the natural waist.  It has six huge buttons down the side and is calf length. The sleeves appear to be folded or pleated.  She wears feathers in her hat and her gloved hands clutch the umbrella.  She also wears a strand of jewelry of some sort.

My best guess is that this is a snapshot from the 1920’s.

Perhaps someone can identify the car in the background.

Algot Anderson is the photographer in St. Paul Minnesota.  He was a photographer there from 1894 to 1926.

This is a Cabinet Card from the antique shop near Lake Park Minnesota.

Gordon was a photographer in Owatonna from 1911 to 1916.   There is a notation that he may have been in Owatonna in the 1890’s. 

The young man is wearing a uniform.  It looks to me like he is holding a United States Forage Cap from the Infantry.  I looked for his uniform online with out any luck.  I think it may be from around 1888.

The ladies dress has a high collar with a matching bow at the waist.  The bodice is frilly but not pigeon breasted like those of the early 1900’s.  Possibly this dress could be from the 1890’s.  Her hat is rather large and appears to have flowers and ribbons.

Sarah Beaulieu (b. abt 1879) of the tribe Red Lake Chippewas (Native American), Agency: White Earth, MN.
 
E. A. Weston is elusive.  I found a John T. Weston in Minneapolis in the early 1900’s. 
Since one of the gals is named Grace Weston..I assume that this was some kind of advertising photo, perhaps these were all Grace’s friends and he was just practicing his photography.

This is a snapshot from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

On the back it it says Paynesville Minnesota.   It looks like a group from the 1920’s out for a Sunday drive..and then they sat down in a field for a photo.  The men have those driving/newsboy hats and one of the ladies has a cloche style hat.

A driving/newsboy cap has a small brim and eight triangular shaped panels meet at the top with a covered button.
