This is a photo from the antique shop in Fergus Falls Minnesota.

It was more than I usually pay for a photo ($5) but I felt it was a good mystery and might have a few stories behind it!

On the back of he photo is a notation “Figure 8” and below it ND.

All of their caps say Figure 8 on them.  Five men and one woman.

Any ideas?

Many of the soldiers are from Wisconsin, with an enlistment date of March 31 1942 and they are at Fort Sheridan, Illinois.

This is an old photo that is not very good quality.  I purchased it because it reminded me of a childhood memory.  When I was little there was a place along Washington Avenue in Detroit Lakes Minnesota that had kiddie rides, a train ride and boats in a big water tank going round and round.  I remember both of those rides …there may have been more…and ice cream!  It was a permanent place adjacent to a motel and was a real fun place to go on a Sunday afternoon.

This one could be from a similar place or it could have been with a traveling Carnival.

Hallo, this card is from Innsbruck (Tirol, Austria). "Merry Christmas and a happy new year from Pepi (of Pezi) Aigner and Family. Thank you for your ? card." At the front it also means "Merry Christmas".

This is part of a Kruxo Postcard.  From 1907 to 1920.  Double Breasted suits were popular from 1916 to 1920.

I have just guessed that this is from Cannon Fall High School..CFHS..it is the only town I know of that has the initials CF..I am sure there are many other towns with the same initials.

There is a Franklin Center Michigan that is now known as Franklin.  There are also several Franklin Townships in Michigan.  I struck out looking for a Franklin Location.

I would think that Aunt Hilma is the lady in the doorway.

This "Photo Number 945" was taken on Atami, a resort town in Shizuoka, Japan.
The sign of a shopping arcade (right above) reads "Atami Ginza". A detailed photo of the arcade sign on the following blog (not mine) in Japanese, gives evidence.

I remember my cousins spent their honeymoon in Atami in 1980's. Incidentally, the shop on the left is a sweets shop, because the signs shows sorts of "yokan" (Japanese jellied sweets).

I purchased this photo in an antique shop in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada.  It looks like some Canadian Mounties guarding a train..and then there is the guy in the kilt.  It must be a welcoming ceremony.

In 1939 King George VI became the first "reigning monarch" to visit Canada. During that trip, the King's consort, Queen Elizabeth, initiated the tradition of the "royal walkabout", though her brother-in-law, The Duke of Windsor (formerly Edward VIII), had when still The Prince of Wales in 1919 been frequently meeting with everyday Canadian people; as he said: "Getting off the train to stretch my legs, I would start up conversations with farmers, section hands, miners, small town editors or newly arrived immigrants from Europe."

The 1939 royal tour of Canada was a cross-Canada royal tour by George VI and Queen Elizabeth. It was the first visit of a reigning monarch to Canada. It began 17 May 1939, and saw the royal couple visit every Canadian province as well as the United States and the Dominion of Newfoundland.
