More photos were taken, after all if your father is a photographer…

In the 1920 Census the family is found in Norman County Minnesota with Lewis age 45, Johanna age 39,  Lillian age 14 and Ella age 10.

Jeannette Louise Halverson was born April 24 1920 in Norman County.  She married Roland Emmet Erickson (1920-2002) sometime before 1950.  They had one child James Brady Erickson  March 28 1950 – April 2 1950.  Jeannette died in Hennepin County April 10 1992. She is also buried at St Johns Cemetery Norman County along with her husband and son.

There is one photo of Jeannette.

Census Info:

In the 1930 Census they are all found in Minneapolis in Hennepin County.  Lewis is 55, Johanna is 49, Lillian is 24, Ella is 20 and Jeanette is 9.

In the 1940 Census they are found in Minneapolis in Hennepin County Johanna is 60, Lillian is 34, Ella is 30 and Jeannette is 20.

 Lewis died  April 15 1930.

Johanna died June 30, 1967

This whole family seems to be gone.  The strong tie to Norman County and St. Johns Cemetery seems to be Johanna’s parents Olof and Maria.

I can report that Lillian was born in Beltrami County July 13 1905 and she died September 8 1999 in Golden Valley Minnesota.   She married someone with the last name of Kjorlie.  She is buried in Norman County Minnesota.

This is the Photographers info that appears on several of the older photos.  The Pioneer Studio Blackduck, Minn.

The Minnesota Historical Society has no record of this Studio.  They do have a record of L.H. Halverson being in business in Blackduck Minnesota in 1914 and later in Gary, Minnesota in 1920.

I think that perhaps Lewis left Wisconsin for Northern Minnesota about 1900.   He probably travelled by Ox cart especially if he was carrying his photographic supplies.  I think he met Johanna during his travels.   They met sometime before 1905 and married.   Blackduck was organized as a village on December 29 1900, and in 1905 the train made it’s way to Blackduck which was a logging area.

Photos Number 2046

One day I purchased a number of photos at an Antique Shop at Kabekona Corners…better known as Dave’s Place/ The Peddler.  He said he purchased them at a church rummage sale in Park Rapids Minnesota.

There are eighteen photos in this bunch….all related.

We will start with the oldest.

Johanna and Lewis back Laporte Ant

I know from a census record that Johanna came to the United States when she was three years old in 1884.  So she was born about 1881….April 12, 1880.  Lewis H. was born about 1874 in Wisconsin.

Halverson is sometimes spelled Halvorson in census records..

Johanna’s maiden name was Stephenson, her parents were Olof and Maria.

Lewis H. and Johanna had three daughters and we will see photos of them tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by.

Photo Number 1561

This is the last photo with a name from the album I purchased at Kabekona Corners Antique Shop.
This one is also a CdV.
Karen Langemo K Corners

Karen Langemo back K Corners
Karen Langemo or Langems? or Langeme ?
The photographer is Burnham’s of Fairbault Minn.  He was in business at Main and the Northwest Corner of Second Street from 1869- 1870, 1886 to 1888.  Then again at an address that is just Fairbault in 1878,1884 and 1895.
Because this card has rounded corners and  she is wearing a dress with buttons and something lace I will guess this is from either 1878 or 1884.
Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again.
I will go on to other photos now and let this album rest a bit and see if anyone contacts me since there are a few names out there.

Update from Iggy:
Karen 'Kari' Thygesdatter Haaby (nee Langemo) (1861 - 1951) was the daughter of Thyge Nilsen and Kari Thorbjørnsdatter Langemo.

Mrs L. Huseth  Ole Huseth Mother
The photographer is P.A. Gausemel of Kenyon Minnesota. The Minnesota Historical Society has him located in Kenyon in 1909 and 1910.  I think this photo is much older than that and I would place it in the late 1880’s or early 1890’s.
Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again.

Photo Number 1559

These are two  Real Photo Postcards from Kabekona Corners.

I think these were probably taken the same day.  Possibly the same family.

Til Besla K Corners

Til Besla 3 girls K Corners

Both of these postcards are marked on the back with one name or phrase?  Isn’t their hair wonderful!!

Til Besla back K Corners

Til Besla back K Corners

Til Besta  I did a search Google Translate says it is Danish and it means “to pass.”

The postcards are AZO’s with triangles pointing up and they were used from 1904 to 1918.  Gastler was the photographer in New Ulm Minnesota.  The Minnesota Historical Site has him in New Ulm in 1911 and 1912.

Update from Iggy:
Stella Quam (1914/16 in Cherry Grove, Goodhue, Minnesota) was the daughter of Henry C (he is in Photo Number 1556) and Martha Quam.

In 1930, she was living with her aunt and uncle Charles and Christine Steberg in Wanamingo, Goodhue, Minnesota with her sisters Hazel and Sybil. I do not know where Henry went, nor who Stella married.

From Susanna:

married in 1933 Orvin Alroy/Allroy Holthe, nickname Roy *11Apr 1910 in Hennepin County, Minnesota +5Feb 1985 in Goodhue County, Minnesota; burried at the same cemetery as Stella ----HOLTHE goes with Holte on the back of the photo postcard!

Mother of Stella Irene Quam Holthe: Martha Wallaker Quam (1894-1922)
Father : Henry Christopher Quam (1890-1957)
Sister or halfsister : Hazel Margaret Quam Thoreson (1918-2008) ----in her obituary it is said that she was preceded by a sister, a brother, two half brothers and a half sister.

Stella and Orvin had at least two children:

Photo Number 1556

I purchased a large album of old photos from the antique shop at Kabekona Corner near Laporte MN.  We are regulars at that shop, the owner Dave saved this album for me.
old photo albumn seen better days
The album has seen better days.  But it held 50 photos.  Only seven of those were marked with names.
Laporte men
This is a postcard of nine men.  It is an Azo Postcard with triangles pointing up in the stamp box,  they were used from 1904 to 1918
Laporte men back
Kjos, Clarence Quam, Kjos, Gilbert Grove, Louis Grove, ____, Bert Ness, Jens Quam, Henry Quam.
I wonder if they are all salesmen?  Or classmates?  The postcard seems to have been sent to someone in Kenyon Minn but the name has been erased.  Kenyon is in Goodhue County.  The photographer was Austinson’s of Owatonna & Kenyon.
Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again.
Update from Iggy:
Louis Andreas Grove (Dec. 27, 1888 - Jan. 16, 1973 in Goodhue County, Minnesota) was the son of Peder T. Grove (1849 - 1913) and Maria P. Overboe Grove (1858 - 1914). His wife was Gurena Fenne Grove (1892 - 1956). His brother was Gilbert Christian Grove (1891 - 1951)
Both brothers are buried in Dale Lutheran Church Cemetery, Wanamingo, Goodhue County, Minnesota.

Clarence J. Quam ((1894 - 1947) is buried in the same cemetery as is Henry Christopher Quam (1890 - 1957).
