Photo Number 391
This is another of Pam’s photos from a small Antique shop in Massachusetts. I call these types of photo..babies in chairs and in this one I can almost imagine a Mother crouched down behind that chair hanging on to this baby who is not only on a chair but a covered stool of some sort on the chair. Can you see her arm on the left?
If we are to follow the small children hair rules..boys hair is always parted on the side..then this is a boy.
The Photographers name is very difficult to make out.. Allece or Alliee or Allice ( edited: Albee) of Torrington, Connecticut. Given the heavy card that this photo is mounted on..I believe it is from around 1900 to 1910.
Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)
Update: The correct name of Albee from Salome.
Update: From Iggy

Lovely photograph - and I can certainly see something on the left.
ReplyDeleteI would say the Name is Albee...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful baby and yes, I see the hand!

Beautiful photograph of a beautiful boy! He seems to be scrutinizing the photographer though. (Smile)
ReplyDeleteI love your site. Thank-you for all the time you must spend at this. I am obsessed by the dog in the tree picture in your banner. Where can I see the entire shot?
ReplyDeleteNot only do I see the hand on the left, I see her hair peeking out above the baby's shoulder (on the right) and the pouf of her sleeve on the right behind the chair! She's definitely back there, lol, holding on tight.

it's strange - we see photo of child, but now he probably died and had many important moments in his life, have a wife, family
ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome little fellow! Love his expression! It is sad that we may once again need to rely on luck if this little boy is to ever come full circle. He does bear resemblance to some babies in my family--perhaps I could just adopt him and 'give him a story!' JK/LOL!!! ~abra
ReplyDeleteJanice Coates, He is actually on a fence in front of that tree..It is photo number 332..we have a Border Collie so naturally I could not resist that photo:)
ReplyDeleteHow was the hair of little girls of this age kept?
ReplyDelete@Star - little girl's hair was generally parted in the center and cut into a bob if long enough. As they aged, the hair was allowed to grow longer but still parted in the center. Boy's hair was typically parted on the side and cut short. After the turn of the century, childrens hairstyles became more flexible, and we see the natural part being followed.

it is quite possible that he is propped up, I agree. The period furniture is wonderful. I have one with a similar feel, although possibly a few years earlier than yours. Baby in White
