This is a Cabinet Card from the antique shop in Wahpeton North Dakota.
Carl Foss
The photographer is A.P. Holand So. 3rd Street Grand Forks, N. Dak. He was a photographer for many years. We know for sure from the Grand Forks City Directory that he was at the 3rd Street address in 1891 and 1892. He was a photographer until about 1922.

ReplyDeletePerhaps it is Carl Edward Foss - Find A Grave Memorial# 21842020 ? Is he old enough (b 14 Nov 1889)?
He might be the son of this guy. I thin this photo was taken about 1892 + and the guy looks twenty years old to me. So maybe someone born 1872 or thereabouts.
DeleteWell, there was a Johan C. Foss in the same cemetery...wonder if the "C" stood for Carl...he was born 11 years earlier than this Carl Edward Foss.
DeleteThen, too, since Grand Forks is right on the border with Minnesota, what's the possibility that Carl was just in town to get his picture taken? Maybe he lived in Minnesota...there was a Carl G. Foss in the 1910 census who lived in Middle River, Minnesota. He was born about 1881...still too young.
Or maybe this guy just looked young. I blame it on his haircut ;)
