Four men having lunch/coffee.  The fellow on the lefts has a hat that says Republic Paints and he proudly wears the coat and pants of a painter..perhaps the others are carpenters?

Art Amundson   Carlisle
Wood Farm House
Coffee time for: Anton A. Edwin R. Ernest A. Joel A.
(Shingling the round barn) 1950.
Many times family would help each other I wonder if Art Amundson has brothers named Anton, Ernest and Joel..or sons?
Carlisle is/was in Otter Tail County Minnesota…close to where the antique shop was.
Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again:)

Update from Marilyn ( Granddaughter)
Anton Amundson was my grandfather and Ernest and Joel and Art Amundson were brothers like you found out. Edwin Ronningen was the brother of Emil's wife Marie like you mentioned and also the brother of Anna, my grandmother married to Anton Amundson. So Ernest, Art & Joel were double first cousins to my mother. The farm was originally settled by Amund Smikop Amundson and his wife Ronnaug. One of their daughters Ronnog (Rena) married Augustine Washington Wood and thus the farm became known as the Wood farm when they moved back to Rothsay and lived on the farm. Their son continued to live there and later it was owned by Ernest Amundson and then following his death by Joel Amundson. The farm is in Wilkin County near Rothsay, Minnesota. The house and the round barn are no longer on the property which is still in the family and now is owned by my cousin's son who has built a house there.

This photo went Full Circle 58 on September 17, 2012.

  2. "Wood Farm" is the name of the property and it appears to still exist.

I assume Art took the photo - His obituary begins "Arthur “Art” M. Amundson, age 95 of Faribault, passed away in peace surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at the District One Hospital in Faribault." "He was stationed in Germany and served as a medic helping at Normandy Beach and the Battle of the Bulge." It goes on to say he was "a painter, plasterer and acoustical carpenter for Artcraft, Inc. well into the 1970’s."

Art and his wife Lorraine had 6 children (4 daughters) with two sons, Harold and Tom. So the gents in the photo are not his sons.

Anton A(mundson) (b. 1888 d 1968) was the Manager of the Rothsay Woodwork. His findagrave memorial has a photo of him on it and I think he aged well. :)

Anton's father was the owner of Wood Farm.
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=7396987 has an extensive obituary and story.

  3. Ernest I Amundson (1915 - 1980) and Joel Victor (b: 1932 d: 2005) were brothers and were Anton's nephews (through Anton's brother Emil).

I got the wrong "Art Amundson" in my first post. This is the "right one".
    http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=52520514 shows Art M. Amundson (b. 1917 d. 1999) was also a brother of Ernest and Joel.

The prize is this one: Edwin Ronningen (1897 - 1958) who was Emil's wife Inga's brother.

So the photo, taken by Art (presumably) shows two of his brothers (Ernest and Joel), and two of his uncles (Anton and Edwin).

    4. According to documents on the web, Wood Farm is 2 miles west and 1/2 mile sound of Rothsay, MN.

I sent Farside an email address for Anton's granddaughter. Perhaps she knows. :)

  7. This post was a deja vu experience for me, since my mom knew someone named Art Amundson. As Iggy found out, there must be lots of guys around MN with that same name. Besides, this one's location was too far north: our contact worked closer to the southeast part of the state. Funny how some names are common in some areas but rare occurrences in others.
