I almost didn’t keep this photo..it is fuzzy..then I thought what if it is the only photo these children have of their parents? So here it is. That porch on that house looks like a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Phillip and Betty Rice and kids.
Thanks for stopping by. Do come again:)
Fuzzy though it may be it has such a sense of peace...they have arrived and they shared a moment in the sun. It would be very cool to restore this photo to family.
ReplyDeleteI hope the family finds you!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...you are right: someone will want that picture. I found a Philip A. and Elizabeth Rice in Minneapolis in the 1941 city directory--then another Philip A. and Betty Rice in the 1948 city directory for Arcadia, CA. Wonder if that would be the same couple, having moved to their new home and sending a photo back to the family?
ReplyDeleteThe 1940 census, back in Minnetonka, shows Phillip (spelled this time with 2 Ls) and Elizabeth with a two year old son and a one month old daughter. In the household are in-laws Walter and Eva Edith Hewitt and family.
As for the California Philip A. Rice, he passed away in Orange County CA on March 26, 1985. I can't be sure this is the same one, because I can't find any obituary notice or grave record. However, he was born in MN in 1911, and his mother's maiden name was Jordan.
Don't know if this is a match, but the family constellation seems to match. However, Rice is not an uncommon name, so who knows???
Hi Jacqi, Possibly the 1940 Census couple..the kids seem to match those ages. Thanks! :)
DeleteI love that porch. Looks like a happy family.
ReplyDeletep.s. My sister's married name is Rice and her daughter's married name is Rife. You can't imagine the confusion that causes!!!!!!
