A youngster perhaps about 12-13 years old.  I see shadows in the photo like the boy was cropped out of a group photo.   The photo was probably taken about 1900 to 1905 and the photographer was Packwood….in an unknown town. Mahaska Iowa

John Merrill Baitsell - Born in Mahaska, Iowa, USA on 4 Jul 1889 to John Albert Baitsell and Amanda Clammer. He passed away on 21 Apr 1905.

Johnny died of quick consumption ( Tuberculosis) when he was 15 years old. 
He had three siblings.
Earle McCoy (Half brother)  1879 - 1905
Bessie 1887-1887
Karl  1891- 1959

    1. John J and his brother Charles Weaver Packwood were photographers in the Mahaska, Iowa area in 1900.

  2. John's brother, Karl Merrill Baitsell had a family. Karl himself was a mailman in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Pratt of New York City and formerly of Redlands. The engagement was revealed to a group of close friends at a dinner party held In New York recently. The bridegroom Is the son of Mrs. E. F. Pratt of San Diego and attended . Redlands High school and San Bernardino Valley college. Later he spent several years at thet Art Center school in Los Angeles. Before going to New York, he held the position of assistant art director at the Walt Disney studios in Hollywood. He Is currently employed as art director of the Frank Klernan Advertising agency. Miss Baitsell graduated with honors from Central college, Pella, Iowa, In 1946, and since that time has lived in New York. She is now employed as ' copy chief at the Jules Mirel Advertising agency. The wedding will take place May 29 at the Park Avenue Christian church In New York City, with a wedding reception following in the church parlors."

    Karl's son Roger E. is Find A Grave Memorial# 122251512. I do not know if he had a family. He served in WWII.

  3. You have a good possibility to find a family member for this one. The name is so different that any family member doing a search would zero in on it.

  4. Ah...when you mentioned the shadows in the photo, I wondered if the boy had died. Wonder if this photo was created for a memorial.

    Tuberculosis was such a huge threat in bygone years. We hardly even think about it nowadays, but it was devastating in past eras.
