That's a pretty card from long ago.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
This is a really pretty postcard and one that illustrates a stagecoach so much like the ones that used to travel throughout Minnesota - and just about everywhere else across America. :)
ReplyDeleteMay the Lord bless you and yours this Christmas Day and throughout the coming year.
Of course, for snowy conditions the stagecoaches' wheels were temporarily replaced by runners. Minnesota's stagecoaches, in hindsight, are a charming aspect of history but I prefer to see the U.S.A. from our trusty Chevrolet.
DeleteFords are OK, too, in a pinch.
DeleteBut not any of those foreign jobs.
DeleteWhether the Minnesota stagecoaches were on wheels or in winter on runners, I would not have wanted to be one of the horses that had to pull them. People refer to a "dog's life" as being bad but horses had it much worse than dogs. If a horse wasn't pulling something it was carrying something. Galloping around all day with a fat dude on your back was not much fun, I'm sure -- but better than going to a glue factory. Which reminds me of the Christmas taffy the wife made last week . . .
DeleteWonderful old card and picture. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Have a great day :)
ReplyDeleteI have been through Alden many times years ago It was on route to my late wife's family home in Aplington, Iowa. . If my memory is good, there is a small dam on a river there in that little town. They say they are the best dam town in Iowa.
ReplyDeleteJust visited your site for the first time and love the old postcards. I have one that my grandfather wrote to my dad when he was a small boy in England. Grandpa was a Captain on a gunboat on the Persian Gulf at the time.
