Clara Alice was his second wife. His first wife was May Lillian Heller. I think the boy is Maurice. I think the older sister may have died young? There is no trace of her.

  2. Story is just one county above ours. The name is a familiar one for me.

  3. Wait! Am I missing something? If Clarence was a McVey, how is it he was the son of Shelby and Mahelia Holslaw? Is Holslaw Mahelia's maiden name? Or is there a story hiding between the lines, waiting to be uncovered?

I was surprised to see the photo dated as around 1900. It seems so much more modern in the setting--natural poses, almost informal looking. They certainly didn't look the same stiff way so many other family portraits came across as. Maybe the circular frame softens the effect...

  4. At the Find A Grave memorial on Clarence Elmer McVey mentioned above by Intense Guy one can find links to the memorials of Clarence's parents. A contributor at both of them is a Martha Malinowski. And according to her Bio at Find A Grave she is doing research on her family names including HOLTSCLAW (Clarence's mother's maiden name).
    Anyone contacted Martha Malinowski already?

    1. I agree, too! Because I spent some time on family search.org and Iowa gen sites and could not find any entry which would fit as Maurice's sister.

Great you could make the connection with your second find, Intense Guy!
