This is a Cabinet Card from the antique shop in Brainerd Minnesota.
I have no clue what the woman is wearing..a coat…or a dress?? It has dropped shoulders..and that hat or cap?? I searched for a dress like this..it is not a Puritan outfit or a the dress of a Quaker. Perhaps one of my readers knows?
The gentleman seems to be wearing a morning coat from the 1870’s to 1880’s. A morning coat was usually single breasted. low- waisted and its skirt cutaway from the center front. ( I can see he is sitting on the skirt of the coat.)
This is the back of the card.
John H. Oleson was at 307 Washington from 1876 to 1880.
So my dating is pretty close!
Thanks for stopping by. Do come again:)
I hope someone has info on what she is wearing.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever thought of writing directly to the directors of Costume and Textile museum departments and museums to tell them about your blog? Having someone in their office follow your blog would provide them with a wealth of visual documentation that might be precious for them, and they might be able to provide some clarification now and then. Just a thought!
