“Ten Mile Lake” WWG July 1921
Ten Mile Lake is one of the deepest natural lakes in Minnesota. It is located in Cass County Minnesota.
Any ideas what the W.W.G. stands for?
Thanks for stopping by. Do come again:)
Ten Mile Lake is just south of Walker, MN. Could it be "Walker Women's Group"?
ReplyDeleteIt could be:)
DeleteI reckon Anonymous is right. Great photo, they all look so happy and relaxed.
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess I'm not in the loop enough to know what "Walker Women's Group" is. I was just figuring it was someone's initials. :o
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqi, Women's groups were very popular in this part of the country often times they were call Women's Study Clubs..I am not sure if it was that way all over the US. I know they had district conventions but I am in the dark about the National level. I will have to contact my counterpart over in Cass County:)
DeleteLooks like they were having a grand time!
ReplyDeleteIt could stand for "Women's Working Group," an anti-war group (war resisters international) that formed after WWI (and in 1923 in the USA). Their symbol is a broken rifle.
ReplyDeleteI found a reference to "Wetland Wildlife Group" in Bemidji that worked with a university or college there to count and band birds as far back as 1920. I find it interesting they largely appear to be wearing similar clothing.
ReplyDeleteThey hardly look old enough to be in a "womens group" (unless it was a church group) but they could be college students....
