Well lets look at some photos of places. In this case it is a mystery place. Perhaps one of my readers will know where it was taken at.
I purchased this snapshot in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada in an Antique Shop.
It was taken on Nov. 18, 1930. The ladies skirt is knee length as is the heavily fur trimmed coat.
In the box of photos were many other photos that were marked Detroit, Michigan. This one was not marked.
Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)
Update from Anonymous:
That photo was also taken in Detroit. That is a statue of Schiller that is on Belle Isle.
Iggy shares this:
The Friedrich Schiller (10 November 1759–9 May 1805) statue on Belle Isle in Detroit Michigan. This statue of the German poet and playwright was commissioned by Detroit's German-American community in 1908 at a cost of $12,000; the designer was Herman Matzen. Schiller's poem "Ode to Joy" was set to music by Beethoven in his Ninth Symphony.

DeleteI figured someone out there would recognize the statue. Good job.

DeleteYour blog has gotten me wondering about something...okay, maybe this is my ignorance showing here, but I'm certain one of you stellar computer geeks here will know the answer...it seems to me that a really helpful device might be to do a search, say in Google images, not by words, but by a match between graphics. Is there any such thing in existence? That way, you could look for duplicate pictures online without having to know the name. Today's pic would be a prime example of the need for such a program.
ReplyDeleteI know that there are a lot of blogs that are posting forgotten photos, and maybe that way, someone with an unnamed subject could scan "nonverbally" for similar posts that might include more information.
Anybody know of any such thing? Think it would work???
(now goes back to hiding head in paper sack *blush*)
Hi Jacqi..that would be something wouldn't it? I think there is some kind of software or program that will search for duplicate images..I think that is what some people were doing over on The Old Picture of the Day Saturday guess who post... and they ruined it for us people who would guess without outside info:(
DeleteThat truly would be amazing for those which we had no other way to identify. I do like the old fashioned process of finding when there are enough clues. Abra
DeleteThere is facial recognition software now.
DeleteGoogle lets you do some interesting things too.

Technology is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYou people are SO smart! How you figure all this out from just a photo is amazing!
ReplyDeleteSo very interesting.
