Photo Number 214

I have many questions about this photo...the man on the right..what is hanging from his pants? The little girls have huge hair bows..weren't these popular in the 1920's?  I am wondering about the pipe behind them, were they standing near a field?  The two gals in the center could be sisters, children usually stand in front of their parents in a photo, and I believe that is exactly what these little girls are doing.
Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

  1. The hanging strap is most likely a fob for a pocket watch.

  2. Oh the expression on the little girl in the center makes this shot so perfect. The head tilted down, the stare at the photographer. There's a story going on here. She's in her own world.

  3. It looks like the little girl's bow is too heavy for her to hold her head up!!! Very cute.

  4. Oh wow, my mother must have taken this photo, "Come here everybody. Line up and look DIRECTLY into the sun!" That always ensured that heads would be tipped down and brows furrowed. Such a lovely look, LOL. I agree with the watch fob comment that Nancy made.

  5. Strange that the three younger girls all have very similar facial features - but they don't seem to match up with anyone else.

  6. The strap might also have an early model pedometer or event counter (like they used to count people entering a sporting event), but a timepiece is mre likely.
