J.L.Linde  Photographer in Oslo

The photo might have been taken in the early 1900’s the blouse is a bit pigeon breasted.  I also wonder what is hanging off the side of the hat..a bow?

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

  1. I speculate (since Marie Siverson may well be a Norwegian name) that the text in the imprint might be Norwegian, "Universitets gd. 6" (University street 6), which is a street in Oslo. On the web-pages of the national library, I find that the photographer Frederik Klem started here in 1866, and Gustav Borgen took over in 1891, but moved in 1899.

After that, I can only find a reference to J. L. Linde in what I think might be the same address, in 1905 and 1910.

From the similarity with the printed name, my best guess is that the photographer is J. L. Linde.

  3. A sturdy looking woman! I would guess she is about 30-ish (but it is really hard to tell!) so that would place her birthdate around 1875.

South Hingham, MA is about 15 miles south of Boston (and is now a suburb).

I wonder if Marie was enroute to somewhere, married, vacationing, a maid, or a boarder. A very quick look at the turn of the century census shows at least two Wright families in Hingham, MA, Arthur and Frank - both had live-in young girls from Ireland (usual translation: maids) and another (confused) family headed by John Wright.

If Marie was married and "enroute," I'll put some poker chips out for Gundar Marie Siverson (b. 1877 d. 1947 Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., Minnesota) married to a Siver Siverson.

  5. I have another candidate in the poker stakes - given the 1905-1910 Oslo, Norway dating of the photograph....

Marie Syverson (who is listed in the 1930 US Census as follows)
    Residence: Hendrum, Norman, Minnesota
    Gender: Female
    Marital Status: Married
    Race: White
    Birthplace: Norway
    Estimated Birth Year: 1888
Immigration Year: 1905 <----------------------- !! Is she only 17 in the photo?
Relationship to Head of Household: Wife
    Father's Birthplace: Norway
    Mother's Birthplace: Norway

Her husband, Olof Syverson was born in 1875 in Norway and immigrated in 1882.

I think Hendrum is near Fargo...
