At the bottom it says : Kust Ojala

Someone once told me that many times old photos were marked with crosses above the people who were deceased.   I am not sure if that is correct or not..I suppose it is a possibility.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

Update from Iggy:
 Kust Ojala married Elsa Tuomaala

They had a daughter named Hilma.

Per relatives this is not the Kust or Gust or Gus that married Elsa.

Find A Grave shows a "Gust Ojala" Birth: Nov. 2, 1880
Death: Nov. 25, 1913
Prairie Cemetery

Update:

  1. I'm sure the man is dead (now).

Seriously, Ojala is a Finnish name. I see a Kust Ojala married to Elsa Tuomaala and an Elsa Ojala that died in Wadena, MN on 28 Jun 1915.

They had a daughter named Hilma.

Waldena is close to New York Mills, MN.

  5. He was born in Finland in 1880 and his family came to the states within the next 2 years. The only other thing I know about him from family stories is that he was a big man and went to 'Dakota' to harvest. He went to a saloon one night and drank himself sick. He never recovered, and he died at 33 years old. I don't think he ever married, but I am still sorting out the family tree. Who knows what I'll find! :)

    Thank you so much Connie!

  7. Interestingly, my grandfather marked all the people in his scrapbooks who had died with a star. His photos are from 1913-1920.
