Photo Number 1340

This is a Cabinet Card from Craig’s Collection.  Craig mailed me a whole box of Cabinet Cards.  I hope we can find homes for some of them!

Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again:)
Update from Iggy:
Herman John Snow (b. 12 Jan 1875 in Minnesota d. 30 Sep 1955 in Santa Ana, California)

Oscar E Seiter (b. abt 1865 in Minnesota d. 16 Jun 1942 in Wenatchee, Chelan, Washington), son of Adolph Seiter 1826 – 1887 and Maria Helena Erd 1835 – 1906.

They are both found in the St. Paul City Directory in 1901.

More info from Iggy:
The 1905 city directory for St Paul says Herman J Snow moved to Spokane, Washington. If this is the case, there is another Herman John Snow -

(b. Aug. 23, 1879, Canada d. Jun. 16, 1938 in Spokane, Washington)

He is listed as a "Telephone Operator" in some entries and as a "Grinder" in others (1894-1905) - He lived at 581 Gorman avenue. Oscar was a druggist living at 190 Concord, where his store was located (which was not far away from Herman's place.)

  1. I think they are:

Other than the fact they both lived in St. Paul in 1901 (per city directory), I don't know how they "knew each other."

They both appear to have moved to the state of Washington around the same time - why? I don't know - I see no family connection between them.

  3. Iggy makes all this look so easy! The thought of there being two Herman John Snows in the same city seems strange, though.

Perhaps they were business associates? Or attending a professional event together? If not for family reasons, I'm stumped too about why they'd have their picture taken together. I'm sure there is much more to this back story.

  4. Is it possible these chaps were more than "friends"? Did they have any family?

  5. They had lots of family. They may have been cousins - there do not appear to have in in-laws.

I emailed the g-granddaughter of the Herman John Snow that lived and died in Spokane - and it appears to be unlikely he is in the photo as he never lived in Minnesota. So perhaps my original "guess" - the man that lived in Orange (now Los Angeles) is correct.
