Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again.

Update from Jacqi:
Rose Belle was born in April, 1874, in New York. She apparently married Dr. Alfred G. Doust in February, 1906, effectively resigning her teaching position at that point.

Dr. Doust must have been previously married, because the 1910 census shows the household with four children, but Belle claiming she was mother of only two. The oldest, possibly twins, were Irving Albert and Maud. Rosabel, born about 1907, and her younger brother Alfred Webb Doust, were Belle's two children.

Alfred Webb Doust was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Syracuse in November, 1995, as was Belle's step-son, Irving, in 1966. Belle, herself, passed away on New Year's Day in 1928, and is buried in the same cemetery. The doctor followed her in 1947.

  1. There was a Rose Belle Webb listed in the Syracuse city directory (but not at the address on the photograph) for each year from 1901 through 1904. She was listed as a teacher. In the Syracuse census for 1900, she was living with her grandparents--her grandmother, by the way, also named Rose. Her grandfather was listed as Bolivar Webb. Now there's a name that should be fairly easy to trace!

There is an interesting article in the Syracuse Herald-Journal from 1998 that discusses the Doust medical dynasty, complete with photos. You may view it as a guest (once per day) without charge at NewspaperArchive.com by clicking here.
