Since we are in  the midst of a winter storm here in Minnesota I will share photos of a winter storm long ago.

    Sometimes the prairie snowstorms of the past piled up immense snowdrifts around farmhouses so that for several days the farm families had to climb through second-floor windows in order to get out of and back into their dwellings. Somewhere I still have a 1930's snapshot of one of my teenaged first-cousins climbing out onto a snowdrift from her upstairs bedroom window of her farmhouse on the Minnesota prairie.
