This is a CdV from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.
I bought this CdV because of the bustle and the strange trim on the front of this gals dress. It looks to be some kind of beaded decoration. I am not sure if it is Native American or not.
The photographer was E.S. Hill from St. Cloud Minnesota. He was in business from 1888 to 1914. I will guess that this photo was taken in 1888 or thereabouts.
Thanks for stopping by.
Close up of the trim.
Very nice photo and the beading is indeed interesting, perhaps something handed down in the family? The dark green decorated backs on cabinet cards are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteWell, now I'm curious. Hadn't seen anything like that clasp (or trim or pin???) Wonder if it was something the subject made, herself, or something of personal significance. If it was a memento from a group, you'd think you would have seen something similar in other photographs--especially considering how many you have collected over the years!
ReplyDeleteThis trim is a first for me. I would have remembered it..and the placement seems a little strange. I am wondering if she was a teacher in a Mission School on a Reservation?
DeleteCould it be a part of a traditional costume of Europe?
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the trad. clasps in silver you find on the traditional costumes in Scandinavia - but not quite.
ReplyDeleteIntriguing! She has a "school marm" look to me.
