This week we will look at some of Craig’s Photos, he mailed them to me last spring.
This group of photos is all related.  Mainly they are two people through the years.  Emma and Hazel.
We will start at the beginning.  With Emma.  Todays photos are all CdVs that at one time must have been in an album.

Sonora Cal in about 1866.  Emma was born about 1853.  The back of the card reads:  Dress Cashmere she braided it.

14 or 15 years old..1867 or 1868  Sol bot first silk dress

Sol gave her the gold belt buckle + the money to buy the satin for this dress.
Emma ( age 15) + Sol Haslam ( about 38)
This photo must be from about 1868. 
Personally I don’t see much difference in her from year to year.  Her hair style stays the same as does the photographers studio..flooring, scenery and style of card.
Did she marry Sol Haslam ?  An older man..he is old enough to be her father.

Update: Solan Haslum was found in the 1870 census as a miner in Tuolumne County California.  He was 38 years old, born in Maine.  He lived with other miners including a WA Haslum who was 64 and born in Denmark.

I found some info on Sol.  He is buried in Tuolumne County in Columbia Cemetery.  

Solomon's name is not on the marker, but he is buried with his brother, J. L. Haslam who died in 1886.

The Haslam Brothers

Joseph Lee Haslam, Charles Haslam, and Solomon Haslam were from Waltham, Hancock County, Maine. 

They came to Tuolumne County in the 1860s, and Joseph and Charles were farmers. Solomon was a miner. 

Joseph Lee Haslam was born in 1831 in Maine. He married a lady by the name of Augusta who was also from Maine. In 1880, they had three living children, Nettie A., Mabel and Glenora. 

Solomon Haslam was born in Maine about 1833. He married Anna R., and they had three children. Their children were Herbert, Clarence and Maude. Solomon passed away between 1886, when Maude was born, and 1888, when Anna remarried.

Charles Haslam was born about 1835 in Maine. He married a lady by the name of Hattie who was born in New Jersey to Irish parents. If they had children, none were alive in June 1880.

Since Solomon and his brother are buried together perhaps they died at the same time.

She lived in Fresno, and died in 1933, fortunately a copy of her obituary is retrievable on Ancestry.com from the Fresno Bee Republican on May 14. It lists two daughters, a son, a sister and a brother, all whom survived her. She evidently came to California from Maine when she was about ten years of age.

Charles Melrose living in Payne, Oklahoma in 1920 (according to US census) was born c. 1879 in Kansas. He was married to Emma Melrose born c. 1874 in Tennessee. They had a son, Clarence Melrose born c. 1898 in Kentucky, and a daughter Elsie E. born c. 1901 also in Kentucky.

Charles and family all moved to Ontario, San Bernardino, California by the 1940 US Census.

Charles, b. 23 Feb 1879 in Kansas, died 21 Feb 1949 in Riverside, California and is buried in Bellevue Cemetery, Ontario, California. He served in the Coastal Artillery as a Private in the 92nd Company from 1901 to 1904.

Father Herman Wulf (b. May 1850 in Germany, Immigrated in 1868 d. 2 Aug 1931 in Renville, MN) was married to Christina Boie(?) (b. Dec 1863 in Minnesota).

They had a very large family. In the 1900 US census we find the children listed are Herman Wulf age 24, M Lena Wulf 18, Anna Wulf 15, Sophia Wulf 13, Bertha Wulf 13, Emma Wulf 11, Johnnie Wulf 8, Charles Wulf 6, Amil Wulf 4, and Robert Wulf 1. By the 1910 US census they added Raymond Wulf age 4.

Cecelia is the mother of Adrianne Williams. In 1930 they were living in Oakland, Alameda, California.

Adrianna's father, Robert Barker Williams (b. 14 Apr 1860 in Virgina) died 8 Apr 1929 and is interred in the San Francisco National Cemetery. He was a medical doctor that practiced homeopathic and other forms of alternative medicine. He died of heart disease. He was a Major in the US Army and served in Hawaii.

His Find A Grave Memorial# 3546125.

Celia F. Williams was b. 4 Apr 1874 and d. 23 Oct 1964 in Alameda County, CA. She is also buried in the National Cemetery.

Adrianna was b. 8 Aug 1897 in Hawaii and died on 12 Feb 1978 in Alameda County, CA. In 1940, she was a Bacteriologist. She appears to have never married.

There are 4-5 Mrs. Prescott's living in the Oakland, Alameda County area at the time of this photo - so its anyone's guess as to which one she was...

This is a photo from Craig’s Collection.

The photo is the size of a Cabinet Card. My guess is that this photo was taken around 1900. The gowns are trimmed beautifully in lace.

There are names on the back that are only visible when you turn the card toward the light.

1900 US Census:
Sophia (Age 35) and William (Age 46) Richter living in Janesville, Wisconsin, with children Elmer (Age 7) and Cora (Age 9). The family also shows up in the same community in the 1905 Wisconsin State Census and the 1910 US Census.

Update from Iggy:
Elmer F. died in 1946. He is buried with his older brother Henry who died at age 2 (Find A Grave Memorial# 8656967) Cora S. died 5 Apr 1973. She married an Arthur E Rissman. Her Find A Grave Memorial # 8657167. She and Arthur had a daughter named Ruth I. Rissman (b. c. 1916).

Ruth I. (b. December 13, 1915 d. February 21, 2004) married Charles E(dward?) (F.?) Gierke on 26 Jul 1937 in Cook County, Illinois. In the 1940 US census, the couple are living in Chicago, he is working as a locksmith. He later enlists to serve in the "Philippine Department" during WWII on 19 Sep 1941.

Charles passed away on 29 Apr 1995 in Scottsdale, Maricopa, Arizona. Ruth is listed as a Stenographer, and lived on and passed away in Michigan(?) It is not clear to me - but there appears to have been a Charles Junior.
