This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Dorset , the one I call Dorset Two because there are three shops in that little town.

The Photographer is Root Studio 185 North Wabash Chicago.  The high winged collar and the cap sitting way back on her head suggests the mid 1930’s to early 1940’s to me.

May 6th trough the 12th is National Nurses week.  I have been collecting old photos of Nurses.  My oldest daughter is a Registered Nurse.  Nurses are special people.
We will start with this photo, remember those two boxes of photos I bought long ago that started this blog.  This photo was in one of those boxes.
This is the signature of the photographer..your guess will be as good as mine who he was.  I have darkened the signature to see it better.

I think that this is a photo from around 1910, because of her high white collar and how her cap sits on her head.  Caps were used as a way to keep your hair in place and to present a professional appearance..and then there is the ceremonial purpose of the capping ceremony.  Now a days they have a pinning ceremony instead..not nearly as dramatic as the old capping ceremonies.

Baby is on both picture as they were seperate but put together on the same card.

 

It is a Velox Postcard from 1907 to 1914. They were a very handsome couple.

This is a Real Photo Postcard from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.




Marion Virginia Wald 5 weeks old.  This is an Azo Postcard that was used from 1904 to 1918.
This may be a possibility: In the 1920 Census I found a Virginia Wald 1 and 6/12 who was born in New York  living with Marie Wald 24 married who was born in Minnesota. They were living on Wisconsin Street in Chicago (City) ILL. No occupation is listed for the Mother, they are both listed as roomers. There is a Jack Wald, 28  listed further up in the census that is from New York who is married and an Actor in Moving Pictures. The three are not listed consecutively in the census, but the child Virginia is listed as having a Father from New York and a Mother from Minnesota.

Jack Wald of New York Co., New York married Mary Olsen of Pipestone Co., Minnesota on 25-Jul-1917 in Pipestone, Minnesota. Mary was born 31-Jan-1895. On 1930, Jack doesn't appear with mother (35 years old) and daughter (11 years old and who was apparently born in NY) who are still living in Chicago, Illinois.


Another Marion Wald has been found..either of these could be the baby in the photo.

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. 
It is a Real Photo Postcard, an Azo with squares in the corners which means it is from 1925 to 1940.
Harlan Gilbertson ND which probably means North Dakota. He looks pretty young to have graduated from High School.   I will guess that he is 15 in this photo.

Full Circle 28

This Full Circle began with a search by Abra, she searched with the first name, Harris and his birth date and came up with an address for me in Kansas.  I sent off a copy of the blog and a letter.

Carol wrote back: I do remember him saying when they had snowstorms and the drifts would be up to the eaves, he thought the whole world was snowy!!

I mailed off the photo on April 12 and heard back from Harris and Carol on April 28th.

Yes, we received it.  Thanks so much.  I'm sure one of our kids will want an extra copy of this cute little boy!!
