Looks like a sod house or a “soddy” to me. The walls look thick. Prairie Grass had deep roots and when laid in strips root side up made a house. Often times the houses were covered on the outside with ash or clay for a stucco exterior.

ReplyDeleteMy Great Grandfather and Grandmother Brown first moved to the Dakotas and they could not get seed to grow. The moved to Iowa where they cold live near water.
