Full Circle 144

This is a Full Circle that began with a comment on the blog.  Jamie did a search and came up with a photo of her Great Grandfather J H Whitley. 

Hello! I am so delighted that you have posted this photograph of my great grandfather! I would love to get a copy of this to go in my ancestry book.

I wrote back that the photo came from an antique shop in California.

Polly Knapp was the name on the back of the photo.

Jamie also shared a couple of stories about the men in the photo. ( They are brothers in law.  Howard Jessie Whitley married Charles Louis Weathered’s sister Laura.)

Yes! That is where Aunt Polly lived. So it makes sense. My Aunt said,"Loved going to Uncle Charley's house! That's where we chased the Guineas until they croked. They had a huge, beautiful staircase in the house. Probably wouldn't seem so big now"
This Charley would be her Great uncle.

Here is a story my uncle remembers my Grandfather telling: 
"I remember dad telling about the huge barn that uncle Charlie had, housing multiple teams of mules. He shared a story(probably before his time) of Charlie jumping out of the hay loft with an umbrella into a pile of hay. I doubt if the umbrella was much of a parachute!"

What makes this so funny is that this particular Uncle jumped off the chicken coop with a sheet as a parachute! Lol funny how they all do the same things. 

Use what you like, I'm learning so much about this 2x Great Uncle. Thank you for encouraging this group to pull up some memories:) my husband is going to try to darken the picture using the computer, if he can bring forward more detail I'll send you a copy on here.  Jamie

This Full Circle began when Iggy left a message on Ancestry.
I received a message from someone on Ancestry stating you had a photo of the Swanson family. They were my great great grandparents. If you still have the photo I would love to have it. Barb

I put them in the mail.  Eight photos in all.

William Pryor was Carrie Pryor Swanson’s father.

Nathan is William M Pryors brother.

I heard back from Barb.

Thank you so much.   Ellsworth was born Oct 7 1897 in Anoka MN.He died from heart disease Jun 18 1964. He was the oldest son of Marshall William Swanson and Carrie Pryor. He married Annie Sward daughter of Carl Magnus Sward and Christean Brundin, Both families were from Anoka. He was in the Navy during World War I. After the war he worked in dry cleaning places in Red Wing and Mankato. While in Mankato a daughter was born, Louise Oct 4 1919. She Married Ken Pruitt and had two daughters, Mary Rita and Anna. Louise died Apr 18, 2004 in Spokane where she lived with her youngest daughter. They must have moved back to Anoka for a period of time, since their second child a son Ellsworth was born Jan 18 1921. He died shortly thereafter, Feb 9, 1921. From there, they settled in Red Wing. It was there that my father Marshall Carl was born on Jan 13,1923.On Sept 8 1942, he married Elaine Nelson from Albert Lea. He died April 19 1975 in Pine Island MN. They eventually moved to Austin where he owned his own dry cleaning business.Their youngest son was born Dec 22 1937 at home. Unfortunately during the delivery he sustained some hypoxia and was developmentally delayed. Anna worked hard to get programs started for the developmentally delayed.  He died July 25 1980 after a fall. Marshall Carl had five daughters and one son.

I mailed these photos on November 27, 2015.  I believe that they have arrived, however I have not heard that news.

After a time my OCD takes over and I just declare a Full Circle.  I like to keep all loose ends accounted for.

E J Colmark was the photographer in Kensington Minn.  He was in business there in 1902.

Selma Rostberg Nylen 1888 -1942. She married Anton Dahlbeg Nylen on April 15 1906. She and Anton had at least six children. Annie, Willgard, Wallace, Helen, Harris and Ralph. She is buried in Douglas County Kensington MN. 

Annie Austlund 1883 to 1909 she is buried in Fresno Co Calif. She has five siblings buried in Douglas County Kensington MN, they all died at a young age.

George Benz lived in Grundy County, Iowa in 1910. He was the head of the household's son, 15 years old, and identified as white. George was born in Iowa around 1895. His father was born in Illinois, and his mother was born in Iowa. Their names were William F. Benz and Sadie E. Benz.
