This appears to be Galen Howell Clevenger (1 Sep 1879 - ?) graduation photo - he graduated from the South Dakota State School of Mines, 1901 and later got a PhD and was a professor at Sanford University. Galen Howell Clevenger died in 1953 in Barnstable, Massachusetts.

His son Galen William Clevenger and his grandson (living) in Golden Colorado, are both Mining Engineers too.

I believe the photographer is Gates in Waverly.

Waverly…Iowa maybe or

Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington.

I did a search and found that Gates was a photographer in Waverly Illinois. Waverly is in Morgan County.

John Cox

The young man seems to be about 16 years old…and the photo taken right around 1900 maybe a little earlier.

There are 249 possibilities at Find A Grave…one of the first ones listed a John Cox 1875 to 1926 buried in Morgan County…of course many can be eliminated because of their birthdate…no I did not go through all the names.

I believe this is Earl Wells Pratt (Dec. 15, 1881 in Iowa - 1948), the son of Stephen S Pratt (1850 - 1926) and Nina Delano (1857 - 1934).

Earl married Alma Topp (1886 - 1945) and is Find A Grave Memorial# 22401571.

The 1900 US census shows him living with his parents in Hudson, Douglas, Minnesota which is about ten miles from Alexandria, MN.

Wollensak of 500 National Ave in Milwaukee,Wis was the photographer.

The little boy has something in his hand…maybe one f those “wands” that a music director uses?  He is also holding his sisters hand.  The little girl appears to be holding some flowers.

Herbert Karl Wilhelm Graffenius (Sep. 18, 1891 - Mar. 24, 1947) lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was the son of Herman Graffenius (1868 - 1927) and Louise nee Kloehn Graffenius (1869 - 1939). He apparently, like several of his brothers, never married. He worked as a Glass Maker but was unemployed as were his brothers in 1940.

Herbert is Find A Grave Memorial# 103125815

His younger sister, Elsa (Elsie) Anna M Graffenius was born 25 Apr 1893 and died on 8 Feb 1980. She married Carl A. Thoms (1887 - 1949) at the age of 33 and later she was the third wife of Edward H. Groshek Sr. (1901 - 1973). She is Find A Grave Memorial# 122929807. She appears to have never had children.

The 1910 US census lists Earl J Taylor (Oct. 13, 1902 - Aug. 4, 1999) living in Tompkins, Jackson, Michigan with his older brother Dean I Taylor (abt 1901 also in Michigan).

I think this is William H. Stallwood (Nov. 27, 1881 in Illinois - Jul. 5, 1950 in Livingston, Park County, Montana : Find A Grave Memorial# 61421937) married Edna A. Stallwood nee Heddinger (Aug. 29, 1889 - Jul. 2, 1962 : Find A Grave Memorial# 61421909) the daughter of Mary I Heddinger (Find A Grave Memorial# 61489407).

They had several children.

In the 1930 US census, the children are:

The family in the photo are my cousins. The Peder Soren Waslien family is from Hillsboro ND.   They immigrated from Norway in 1857 to Allamakee County Iowa, from there to Trail County ND.
Peder along with his brother Andreas Waslien (who is my ggg uncle) were the founders of the Norway Lutheran Church in Norway Township in Hillsboro.   The church was established in 1892 and closed in 2012 (there was a huge article in the Fargo Forum in June 2012 about the closing)
The littlest girl in the photo Mina, her daughter Orilla, is celebrating her 90th birthday on September 24, 2014.   
I just got the invite on Wednesday in the mail about 30 minutes before I saw the photo on your blog....(I had went thru all your photos and just started on your May 2014 photos when the mail came with the invite)
(Coincidence. ...hmmmm)
On a side note: Mina Waslien married Henry Nysveen. whose father Johan perished aboard the Titanic when that sank in 1912.
So now you know the story.....

...there will be Haarstads at the gathering...for Orilla..her father was also a founder of the Church....they lived down the road from both Andreas and Peder Waslien and Nysveen families, and some still reside in the area.
