Photo Number Sixty-Eight

This is a Cabinet Card, Halvorsens was in business only two years 1886 and 1887.  This photo came from an Antique Shop in Park Rapids, Minnesota.  Perhaps someone will be able to tell us more about the little girls shoes..are these the kind of shoes that you needed one of those button hooks for?  I wonder what the Gentleman did for a living?  Do the girls look like twins to you?  There isn't much difference in height and they are dressed exactly the same.

Photo Number Sixty-Seven

I call this one "Silk Stockings"..because I believe she is wearing silk ones.  They are very shiny.  This is a Real Photo Postcard an AZO with squares so it is from 1925 to the 1940's.  Stockings were very important to ladies back then..they weren't properly dressed without them.  Silk stocking were expensive.  Nylons first appeared at The Words Fair in New York in 1939.  During World War II 1939 to 1945  silk, nylon and rayon stockings were scarce. Silk was used for gun powder sacks, rayon and nylon were used for tents, parachutes, ropes and tires.  Woman sometimes resorted to putting makeup on their legs and drawing a line with their mascara down the back of their legs to simulate a seam in their pretend stockings.

I will date this photo 1939..I am curious what  the two pockets of material or tassels?? are for..are they just decoration..or do they serve a purpose?  They seem kind of strange ?  She is also holding something in her hands..but it just looks like a piece of paper.

Photo Number Sixty-Six

This is the last of my Holiday Photos..it will give me something to do over the next year..to look for more old Holiday Photos.  I have some that are winter scenes..we will get to them one of these days.
This is the Jim Albright Family..there are lots of Albrights down in the Frazee Minnesota area..my grandparents used to talk about their neighbors with the same last name.  I got this at the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota..  I will have to remember to ask my Mother if she knows these people! I will date this photo as 1950 or 1951.

I call this one Lovingly, Ruthie.  It is probably from the late 1940's..Ruthie must have been off working someplace and could afford to send off her own Holiday Greeting.  I got this card from an Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Photo Number Sixty - Four

Well, this is a little girl..with idiot mittens posing for a photo with a pedal car.  I think that the pedal car is a Fire Chief..I couldn't find any pedal cars exactly like this one to date the photo..but I am guessing that this is the 1940's.  Most pedal cars we made for children six to eight years old.. this little girl looks older than that..who ever got it as a gift was very lucky..perhaps it was for her little brother.

It looks like a Garton "Hot Rod" pedal car. These were manufactured from 1952 into the 1960's. The bell was probably added on.

Photo Number Sixty-Two

I missed posting a photo yesterday..the day just slipped by..busy time of year!   This family however looks so relaxed!  I left this photo as is.. Merry Xmas 1943 was crossed out at the bottom of the photo .apparently this family was offended that Christmas was shortened..so they took a pencil or a pen and covered it up.. I would have done the same thing!  No one but the lady of the house is even looking at the camera...I did note a familiar framed print in the background.
