Photo Number 171

This is a photo I call Lace Collar Gal.  This was taken in 1902 by E J Colmark in Kensington, Minnesota.  It was the only year he was in business.   Do you suppose that this collar was tatted..??  I know nothing of tatting and lace..but perhaps one of my readers does!

the collar is definetly not tatted, tatting lace has a complete differend structure than this collar. Although the Photo is not very detailed i'm sure, that this is a gipure lace. With more details it would be possible to tell if it is a crochet work (irish gipure) or the "original" kind of gipure wich is a bobbin lace.

Relaxing in the yard.  When was the last time you took a favorite rocking chair into the yard?  Especially a love seat style rocker.  This was probably taken around 1910.  A family gathering.

This is a photo that Norkio/Mrsmarvel  emailed me.  It is a photo taken at Lake Erie, Erie Pennsylvania in 1910-1915.  Her Grandma Pat is one of these girls! She does not know which one.   Can you imagine what a fun day these gals had on the beach?  The knee length suits were very fashionable at that time.  The water or the wind off the water must have been cold..as some of them have what look to be coats or perhaps bath robes on for warmth.

I am not certain where this was taken at or what was happening.  Is it some sort of Military Graduation Ceremony?   Perhaps one of my readers will recognize the building.

It is a very unusual building..are they on a football field or a parade field?

This photo was taken outside of Ma Morgans in Duluth..this couple might be the Grandma and Grandpa..that would make Ma Morgan.. the Great Grandma..or they could just be a favorite uncle and aunt..or friends..that is some fancy coat.

This is the last photo I have taken outside of the Morgan home.  I will date these photos 1920.  I have seven photos that I can connect with the Morgans..a real treasure trove of old photos if you have none.

Perhaps someday these photos can be returned to their family.

This dress looks hot and heavy..I thought that the velvet front piece was interesting.   I also like the wicker chair and the garden setting in the background, however the dress seems out of place in this setting.  I will date this photo 1895 to 1900.

Two sisters?  Perhaps.  They appear to be wearing two or three piece outfits cut from the same pattern.  I will just assume that women especially in rural Minnesota either sewed themselves or went to a dressmaker. I am sure in bigger cities you could buy ready made clothing.

This photographer I P Wood was in Delano, Minnesota from 1894 to 1895.  There was no record of him being in Rockford.  He obviously was there at some point in time.  I shared a copy of this photo with the Minnesota Historical Society because they have a directory of Minnesota photographers, they can now include Rockford as another location for this photographer. I consult their site on a regular basis to help me date photographs.

The laptop seems to be working as advertised..I must be getting old..since I sometimes doubt new fangled things..like wireless Internet connections!
