Esther & Geo Burke

William L Smith was the photographer.
I think this is a photo from the 1920s. It looks like Esther has a short haircut with some curls on both sides of her forehead. In the early 1920’s it was quite scandalous to cut your long hair short, the new look was a bob that was either straight or curly.
Thanks for stopping by.
Update from MJM:
It looks like a W.L. Smith was a photographer in Duluth. On the 1940 census I found an Esther Burke (wife) age 41, George M Burke (head)age 65 and Kenneth MacDonald (father-in-law) age 68, living in Duluth.

Fascinating photo and story.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't able to find a husband and wife combo with these names. Any thoughts on her being his daughter?
ReplyDeleteAt first glance, Iggy, that's what I had wondered, too. She looked young enough to be his daughter. But seeing what MJM found, if this is the right couple, she did turn out to be over 20 years younger.
