This is a snapshot from the antique shop in Crosby Minnesota.

This is Paul Farrington.  He is on the Wilson - Lowe Trail which is in the San Gabriel Mountains in California.

We have a date:  March 15 1925.   He looks to me to be about 8-10 years old.  So we are looking for a boy born about 1915 – 1917 or thereabouts.

Photo Number 1788

This is a Cabinet Card from the antique shop in Madison Indiana.  I bought it because of the buttons and the brooch.

The photographer is Beatty in Sigourney Iowa

Ed and Leora Cora Shimmin

Both first names have been erased and then added…also I think the last name was added by someone else.

 

Here is a close up of those buttons.  They must have been handmade and very special to this woman.
This cabinet card has a light pink back.  It may show up as dark pink since I messed with the contrast.  During the 1880’s to 1890’s different colors were used on the face and the back of some cabinet cards.

I think the last name is Shimmin. There is a John Shimmin in FindaGrave that lists a son Edward J. They lived in Sigourney, Keokuk, Iowa.

Edward J Shimmen (mentioned above) married Cora Estella Dillon. They moved from Chicago (in 1910) to Pasadena, California by 1920.

Ed and Cora had only one child, according to the 1910 census. The son, Fred, eventually moved to be with his parents in California.

After Cora passed in 1936, Fred and his wife Lillian moved in with his dad (Edward Shimmen) in Pasadena. I can't tell whether the younger couple had any children, but likely not. Fred died in 1963, Lillian in 1973. According to Lillian's obituary, she was buried in New Albany, Indiana,

Cora was born in March of 1868 and died in October of 1936.   I am not certain if this is an old enough photo to be Cora...perhaps the photo was TO Ed and Cora Shimmen??

I purchased this photo in a Madison Indiana Antique Shop.  It is a Cabinet Card the corners have been cut off.

This must have been a risqué photo back in the day.  She appears to have pierced ears with diamond earrings and a very shiny bird like ornament in her hair. She is wearing a lacy creation.

I suspect this is "Addie" Adolphine Dilly nee Klosterman  (b. 1872 d. 1955)  buried in Saint Louis Cemetery, Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. She was the wife of a Pharmacist, William G. Dilly.

This is another graduation photo from Verniel.

Verneil thinks this gal might be part of the Haataja family.  We are looking for a gal that was born about 1930 or 1931.
This is probably a graduation photo from 1948 or 1949 1947 Rex Mc Donald was the photographer in Wadena Minnesota.

My Cousin Verniel sent me a  few graduation photos from the year 1948.  She is not certain who they are?

Verniel thinks this one might be Beverly Carlson.  Douglas Carlson’s sister.

Rex McDonald was the photographer in Wadena Minnesota.
This could be from Sebeka, Menahga, Wadena or Frazee High School.

Parents Nels and Hilma Carlson  living in Blueberry Township in 1940 census.  She was nine years old in the census and her brother Douglas was two.

This Real Photo Postcard made me smile!

This postcard was purchased at the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.  Looks to me like the city slickers are leading the farm boys astray.  This is a Cyko postcard that was used from 1904 into the 1920’s.
