This is a postcard from the antique shop in Solway Minnesota.

It was written 100 years ago. She wears an ankle length gown of a dotted fabric, the blouse has a sailor inspired collar and  is slightly pigeon breasted with a bow at the waist.  Possibly that is a watch chain that she is wearing around her neck that falls to her waist.

Dear Cousins I am going to send you one of my cards I had taken last summer.  The4y aren’t very good but it will show I haven’t forgotten you.  How are you?  I am fine and dandy hope you are the same.  The rest of the folks aren’t so well at the present.  We have had a fine fall of snow the last day or so.  I tell you it looks some what like winter it was so pretty it did look like spring had come. But it is some what changed, have you had much snow your way.  Have you heard from Johnnies folks. Lately we haven’t, how are the children come and see us when you come back in the country. tell Johnnie hello from me.  Write again we always like to hear from you.  With love from (Nora Russell)

The 1910 US Census  shows Nora living in Mil(l)ville, Grant County, Wisconsin,, age 18 (Born c. 1892 in Wisconsin). She appears in the household of H. George and Maude S. Brown. 

Her parents appear to be Elisha and Rosetta Russell. Also, in 1920, she appears to have married William Burley Hudson (1892 – 1980). Nora E. Hudson died on 3 May 1960. She had at least two children, a Ruth and a William.

A lovely lady with what appears to be a velvet gown with rows of button trim on the bodice and up the sleeves.

Morgeneier was in Winona Minn from 1883 to 1894.

This is a Cabinet Card from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

O.E. Flaten was a photographer in Moorhead Minnesota from 1880 to 1928.  This photo was most likely taken in the 1880’s..the skirt has pleated edges and a bustle, the tight filling jacket has a high collar…her hair is pulled back with some curls at the front.

This week we will look at some ladies dresses.

This is a carte-de-visities from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

I would call these dresses day dresses, possibly even prairie dresses.  The dresses have  a swag of fabric in the front that looks like an apron.  Mother and daughter..possibly.

W.L. Barnes made these CdV’s during 1868 to 1870 according to the Minnesota Historical Society Photographer records.

This is a photo from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

A young lady with a huge bow in her hair, adorned with a corsage, who is wearing gloves and holding a rolled up diploma.  This is most likely a photo from around 1905 to 1910.  Her pigeon breasted gown is very ornate.

There is a name on the back of the photo.

Alveda Victoria Carlson (1890-1985). Born in Forest Lake, Minnesota, USA on 27 Mar 1890. Alveda Victoria married John Edwin Judkins and had 6 children. She passed away on 13 Jul 1985.

This is a CdV  from the antique shop in Solway Minnesota.

This young lady with ringlets most likely sat for her photo in the late 1860’s.  The CdV has square corners typical of the late 1860’s.  Her hair does not cover her ears..young people started uncovering their ears in photos after 1865.

I found out that Mr. Mote worked with Mr Swaine in 1864, later he worked with his brother, who was a fine artist with oils and colors.  Mr Mote was in the photography business for about twenty years 1864 to 1884.

This is a photo from the antique shop in Park Rapids Minnesota.

The photo is marked on the back.  Mom.

She seems to have some kind of gown on that has no shoulder seams or much of a shape. The flowers may have been attached to the front of her gown..we have seen that before.  Sometimes a whole bouquet is attached to the front of a gown.
