During that trip, the King's consort, Queen Elizabeth, initiated the tradition of the "royal walkabout", though her brother-in-law, The Duke of Windsor (formerly Edward VIII), had when still The Prince of Wales in 1919 been frequently meeting with everyday Canadian people; as he said: "Getting off the train to stretch my legs, I would start up conversations with farmers, section hands, miners, small town editors or newly arrived immigrants from Europe."<br /><br />The 1939 royal tour of Canada was a cross-Canada royal tour by George VI and Queen Elizabeth. It was the first visit of a reigning monarch to Canada. It began 17 May 1939, and saw the royal couple visit every Canadian province as well as the United States and the Dominion of Newfoundland.<br /><br />Cited from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_tours_of_Canada#1939_royal_tourIntense Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08441598926026727682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2320880361203053560.post-1119190047587493162012-07-25T00:29:54.053-05:002012-07-25T00:29:54.053-05:00Yep - the Queen Mother and King George VI, I recko...Yep - the Queen Mother and King George VI, I reckon too :-)Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04360272405643318813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2320880361203053560.post-90852683132563755072012-07-24T23:08:10.607-05:002012-07-24T23:08:10.607-05:00Queen Elizabeth II's mother and fatherQueen Elizabeth II's mother and fatherZeldahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06704893695713463644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2320880361203053560.post-70170502820694871382012-07-24T19:22:25.785-05:002012-07-24T19:22:25.785-05:00The S-s-s-s-stammering K-k-king :) And no, I haven...The S-s-s-s-stammering K-k-king :) And no, I haven't seen The King's Speech.
