To me, there are a lot of similarities between this gentleman and Photo 428. Perhaps Mr. 428 is this man's son?Intense Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08441598926026727682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2320880361203053560.post-36248151980279567662011-01-31T13:14:34.761-06:002011-01-31T13:14:34.761-06:00Your website, which I came upon by accident one da...Your website, which I came upon by accident one day, has inspired me to research my own family tree.

I love what you do and your blog has brought me much enjoyment!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2320880361203053560.post-76547659561922740772011-01-31T12:17:17.485-06:002011-01-31T12:17:17.485-06:00If it has a mirror like quality at any angle, it i...If it has a mirror like quality at any angle, it is a daguerreotype. If not a mirror, then an ambrotype. The more ornate the matte and preserver (the piece that goes all the way around the outside and then slides into the case) the later in the era, regardless of dag or ambro. The stamped mattes like above appeared about 1859 and ran to the end of the dag/ambro era in about 1865. If this is a dag, you can date it between 1859-1862, otherwise an ambro would be between 1859-1865.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2320880361203053560.post-68112977062404179302011-01-31T11:00:25.300-06:002011-01-31T11:00:25.300-06:00What a lovely frame! What a lovely frame!Katelynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09227947102362430188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2320880361203053560.post-25013931819087507582011-01-31T05:33:42.491-06:002011-01-31T05:33:42.491-06:00A wonderful early photograph.
