Too much work to be done I guess. Even today they mow but none of that fancy "caretaking" that the suburbanites do. When I had 5 acres to mow....that's about all I did....mowed. If I had used weed killer I wouldn't have had any lawn. Come to think of it same is true today and I live in a neighborhood.
