This is a Real Photo Postcard from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.
Luckily we have the back of the Post Card which gives us names and a glimpse into their occupations. Before looking do you care to guess?
Arthur Anderson Out of Town Shipping Clerk
2 now have charge of the Fruit Department
Paul Stradley (Straelby??) Head Salesman
Douglas Woodland Fruit Decorator
Walter Matthews Order Clerk
Taken just after we have cashed our checks which accounts for the smiles on each face.
This is an AZO postcard which usually dates from 1904 to 1918.
Thanks for stopping by.
Interesting occupations.... Wonder what a fruit decorator is!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun photo.
ReplyDeleteI would have made a miserable guesser. I thought it was a lineup for a vaudeville act.
ReplyDeleteThe photo has four names and five guys. I wonder who the fifth guy was? ;)
ReplyDeleteI didn't have any luck finding out who these guys were in the short time I had available. Will try again later.
The fifth guy is probably the "we" in the we cashed our checks..the last guy on the right...maybe?? I looked at Find a Grave...no concrete results.
DeleteI found a Paul James Stradley (abt. 1879) with his wife Dorothy that lived in Des Moines, Iowa and later in Denver that was a "salesman" for a "grocery" The Denver directory shows TGSco for the grocery - but I can't determine what the letters stood for...unless... I can link an Oscar Anderson (not Arthur) working at the same grocery store and a Walter Matthews to the same location.
ReplyDeletehttp://digital.denverlibrary.org/cdm/singleitem/collection/p15330coll22/id/34911/rec/1 has a photo of the store.
His WWI registration list John Thomson Groc Co.
