The photographer is D.L. ?halley of Berne IND.
This cabinet card was most likely taken about 1895.
We had a baby named Elda V Yoder a few weeks ago who had her photo taken in Johnstown, PA. That was photo number 1515. They are probably not related. Berne Indiana had a large Mennonite Community in the late 1800’s.
Thanks for stopping by. Do come again.
There is another name here it is.
Off to the left is the name Reusser
Update from Iggy: The lady standing is most likely Adeline Fox Yoder 1881 -1951
Sarah Krehbiel nee Reusser. 1870 -1923
From that info I think Sarah is standing and Adeline Fox Yoder is sitting down.
The Yoder family is huge - and has its American roots in Mennonite/Amish PA.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if these are mother-daughter?
This photo appears on Aldine Yoder's Findagrave memorial
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=55099150 The photo was added by a Chris Yoder - who's profile indicates he is a "family historian".
He got the photo from Craig apparently an email copy. We will wait and see if he wants the original. I am happy to send it to him. :)
DeleteNice photo and interesting info.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that additional surname might be Rensser instead of Reusser. Back at that point, some handwriting styles rendered "n" and "m" more like we write "u." Take a look at the "n" in the written word, "Aunt." It looks similar.
ReplyDeleteFind A Grave Memorial# 48313497 might be a clue to Sarah Krehbiel nee Reusser. She lived in Berne, Indiana.

ReplyDeletehttp://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=55315091 Many thanks to Find A Grave volunteer Chris Yoder! He sent me an address for a granddaughter.
Chris Yoder sent Iggy an address for a relative Sonja in Indiana I will mail her a copy of the blog and see what happens.
ReplyDeleteSonja is a relative of Aldine Yoders.
DeleteIf you still have this photo and would like to get rid of it, the Berne Public Library in Berne, Indiana, collects Shalley's (photos by the photographer Shalley). They would love the photo for their Heritage Room or, if nothing else, a good scanned copy of it.
