Photo Number 1517

This is a Cabinet Card from Craig’s Collection.
Hattie and Walter Fletcher CP
I believe this is Hattie and Walter Fletcher, the pencil on a dark card is difficult to read.
I will guess this Cabinet Card was taken around 1880 give or take a few years.

Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again.

Update from Iggy:
I think this might be Willard Franklin Fletcher's family. He and his wife Lulu had Hattie S., 14 (in 1880) and Willie F. 10. Willard (Mar 1835 - 1924) was the Chief of Police in Oakland, CA.

  1. Henry Sherman Beals was the photographer - he worked in Sacramento from 1854 to 1907.

    1. One of your readers? Who?

For searching newspaper articles on California names, a great free resource is the California Digital Newspaper Collection. I found a sketch of Oakland's Captain Willard Fletcher in one October, 1896, edition. Sadly, I also found the death notice for his son, also named Willard, who died February 3, 1911. Apparently, this family lived in Stockton, California, for a time, for Willard Junior was born there.

I tried to find either father or son through Find a Grave. There is a Willard Fletcher listed there, but he has the wrong middle name.

Wish that pencil mark was easier to read. I'm still wondering about that third child...whether this is a good fit for the family in this photograph.

    2. Yes, I'm not sold on it being Willard - just it seemed a possibility. As to which one of the blog readers... LOL... :)
