Photo Number 1117

This is one of my favorite snapshots of a group.  I purchased the snapshot in the Solway antique shop.

Ella August 14 1927 Solway antiques

It is marked on the back Ella August 14 1927.

The kids are a hoot in this photo..between books, hats, cameras and shoes they are obviously bored with the photographer..who doesn’t know how to center a photo.  It makes me wonder what was happening off camera.

Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again:)

It appears to have been a nice day for a small gathering of family and/or friends near a lake or river. August 14, 1927 happened to be the first birthday of one of my siblings. This snap reminds me of how challenging it was to line up the subject[s] in one of a box camera's two view finders, which provided only very tiny reversed images that were confusing to those who did not take a lot of pictures. It seemed as though the smallest movement of the camera in any direction caused the subject[s] to disapppear from the view finder. And, as just about anyone who has ever used a box camera knows, in bright sunshine [as there was for this snap] it was often difficult to see what was in the view finder in the first place. The seated mature woman reminds me of the character actress of long ago, Reta Shaw.

  3. A family with a good sense of humor, even if they didn't know it at the time. When I looked at it small I thought "Oh my, is someone holding a piece of watermelon? Heart be still." No. A shoe. She's holding a shoe. Don't you wish you knew how her life turned out?
