Photo Number 955

This is a snapshot from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.
Seven girls lined up DL Antiques

Seven girls all lined up tallest to shortest..sisters..cousins or just friends?  The back gives us the “me” name.
Seven girls lined up DL Antiques back
Melina, Sylvia, La Verne, Mildred “me”, Myrtle, Flora and Florence.  I wonder if the 8 is part of a year..like 1928?

Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again:)

Update from Abra:
Here is what I have figured out from this picture. Some luck, some detective work. First to Iggy's comment about the studio: it would be Benson Studio in Crookston MN, which fits with the discoveries I made. It would be too difficult to explain all the steps I had to take to line all of these up, but I've pieced together that these are girls from three families, so a group of cousins. I believe Connie is correct about the date of 1928. The ages I am using are approximate, but close, using mainly the 1930 census and subtracting 2 years. They are Melina(19), Sylvia(12), and Flora(6) Brunelle. Their mother is Adelia Roi Brunelle. Then there are LaVerne(10), Myrtle(8), and Florence(7) Roi. Their father is Arthur Roi. Finally, there is Mildred(12) Roi. Her father is William Roi. I am assuming that Adelia, William, and Arthur are siblings. All the families lived around Red Lake and Polk County. I have not been able to do a lot of tracking, though there are several family trees. I did discover that Mildred married Richard Cassavant in 1938 and died in Dec. 1942, shortly after giving birth to a son Dennis, who also died. In the 1940 census, they did not have children, so whether she had any between then and through 1941, I wasn't able to find. Among all if these girls, their must be some descendants. ~Abra

  5. Under the names on the inspection stamp it says Benson Studios and has what looks an address. Is it readable?

  8. I followed up and found the three parents mentioned bt Abra are indeed siblings. Their father was named Napoleon Roi.

Determining what became of these girls was an effort I have nothing on three of them. No leads on living offspring although one or two of these girls may still be living.
