Today we have a Cabinet Card from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.
This gentleman is resplendent in his double breasted overcoat, gloves, cane and his beaver top hat. Not to mention the flower in his lapel.
Dorret and Martin of London S. W. are the photographers.
Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)
Update From Tolley Family Historian
Dorrett and Martin were only at 60 West Strand for a brief period after establishing their partnership in 1899. Dorrett was widely recognized in London as one of the best technical photographers of his day.
Now that's a proper English gentleman!! Goodness... he could be on his way to see Sherlock Holmes.
ReplyDeleteAnd this photo can be pretty accurately dated as Dorrett and Martin were only at 60 West Strand for a brief period after establishing their partnership in 1899. Dorrett was widely recognized in London as one of the best technical photographers of his day. http://fwd4.me/0zgn gives an account of his life.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info! :)
DeleteGreat portrait of an interesting subject...but what I enjoyed seeing was the ornate reverse of the photograph.
ReplyDeleteI sure this gentleman had the ladies swooning!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic photograph! I would have been fighting you for it had I been on hand for the purchase. :-)
