Photo Number 661

This is a CdV from the antique shop in Solway Minnesota.

Porkchop sideburns CdV Solway

A gentleman with very large “Pork Chop Sideburns.” He also seems to have some kind of a striped shirt underneath his vest.  His suit jacket is buttoned using only the top button, which was the fashion in the late 1870’s to the early 1880’s. He seems to be quite an assured man…or perhaps just full of himself.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

  1. Who says, men are not (or were not) fashion conscious! He has tended very carefully to his facial hair. These styles are quite interestig. They tell something about the man.

  5. I myself am taken by his clothing (of course ha ha). The striped shirt is like nothing I have seen before. Makes me wonder if he was considered a "dandy" in his town, or if this was something special he wanted to show off for his photo. Most men dressed so conservatively, after all, that the stripes really stand out!

  6. He must have been sporting the "GQ" look of the day with just that top button closed. I think you're right. He looks a bit full of himself to me.

  7. I'd guess the stripes are on a piece of neckwear, not a shirt.

  8. I'm going to suggest that he is a red head
