This is a snapshot from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
On the back is the stamp that reads Enamel MoenTone Prints and two words Meloinog Myrthle.( edited to read Melvin og Myrthle)
I will guess that this is a photo from the 1920’s.
Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)
Update: Info From Norkio on the shoes:
The shoes the boy is wearing are called Brogans or similar. The girl has on Mary Jane's. They were probably inexpensive single last or double last shoes. I forget when they went to the double last. Might have been at the turn of the century.
The shoes look very much home made. I wonder if they were?
ReplyDeleteFunny, I first noticed their shoes also. What cute kids.
ReplyDeleteI looked up og, which is Norwegian for and. This is apparently Melvin and Myrthle. I found a couple families with both of these names, but the girl is older, so that doesn't work. I will try to get back to this later.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Abra about the names and "og".
ReplyDeleteseems that it was summer.. ground is completely dry...

ReplyDeleteI found frequent mentions of "Enamel MoenTone Prints" in advertisements in magazines like "Boys Life" dating from 1935-1945. It was a national photo printing shop for do-it-yourself photographers. Perhaps Melvin and Myrthle's parent took the photo.
ReplyDeleteSuperior Quality since 1898. Moen Photo Service, Box 867-L, 452 Moen Building, LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
There are a large number of possible Melvin and Myrthle brother and sister's in the US census.
ReplyDeleteOne that I sort of like - shows Alfred M. and Anna M. Nordquist (both of Sweden), living in Clay County, Minnesota, with only children, Melvin A. (b. abt 1900) and Myrtle C (who was two years younger than her brother).
I found another pair born of Ben L. Sorem, Melvin L (b. 1901) and Myrthle L (again, two years younger) who had at least a 12 other brothers and sisters, living in Ransom, Nobles County, Minnesota.
Love their merging shadows.
