I think that this photo was taken right around 1928 about six months after Winona was born, she is in the photo with her Father Donald Eckley who would have been about 22 at that time. Winona would have been a Great-Niece of Netties and Gerties Granddaughter.
Thanks for stopping by, do come again. Thanks to Iggy for the help sorting out the Gertie Smith/Perdue mystery:)
Donald Eckley is just a handsome and joyful looking man - obviously so very proud to be a father of his daughter. :)
ReplyDeleteThe country side seems to have some rolling hills in these photographs.
The telling comment is this "Seem to remember Mother talking of him..." One of Nettie's children was (to me) definitely labeling these photos - and probably after Nettie died in 1943 when the album changed hands and was passed down. Perhaps an "Eckley" offspring might be found - its been difficult to find people "across" the 1940-2000 span of time -
What became of all of Nettie's sons?
What a happy looking set of photos!

My husband is is Don and Mamie's great grandson. We have no photos of them so I can't wait to show him these. I'm doing his family history so thanks for all the info if you have anything else my email is jennidavis@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteHe looks to be so happy to be a dad. I love when old photos belie the stereotypes of stern fathers from the "old days" and show happy people.
ReplyDeleteGreat candids! Mr. Eckley does look to be a nice fellow. He has a kind smile. :) I really enjoy this blog.
ReplyDeleteI guess you don't need a lot of things we have now to be happy.
ReplyDeletesuch a contrast... that smiling happy face.
ReplyDeletemost of the photos from my dads family back then are so solemn!
