The nubby bits are in a pattern, whereas shantung is random slubs that are smaller.Norkiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14017387181655123770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2320880361203053560.post-29705403144612158742010-03-19T22:36:00.304-05:002010-03-19T22:36:00.304-05:00As I understand it shantung is a modern silk and w...As I understand it shantung is a modern silk and wasn't available at the turn of the century, which is when I'm guessing this photo was made. The dress could be linen which was available and very popular.Norkiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14017387181655123770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2320880361203053560.post-17486389352423662942010-03-19T10:18:16.969-05:002010-03-19T10:18:16.969-05:00Hi Lo, Shantung..I have no idea..I had to look it ...Hi Lo, Shantung..I have no idea..I had to look it up..it seems to have more luster to it than this fabric. Shantung also seems fairly expensive. Linen sometimes has this nubby texture, but I don't think that this fabric is totally linen either. To me it looks like cotton..or a blend..:)Far Side of Fiftyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07995757632158408442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2320880361203053560.post-41764149779401250102010-03-18T19:53:43.258-05:002010-03-18T19:53:43.258-05:00Could it have been shantung?Could it have been shantung?Lohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08398370059689865989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2320880361203053560.post-87201974208192759342010-03-18T15:20:25.420-05:002010-03-18T15:20:25.420-05:00Can you imagine all the ironing that had to be don...Can you imagine all the ironing that had to be done back then with all the cotton dresses and such.
