Full Circle 90

This is a Full Circle that came about through research by Iggy!
He sent me a name and an address. I sent off a letter with a copy of the blog post with the photos.
Dear Connie,
Please forgive me for not responding sooner to your letter postmarked Jan 2014. I am William Rohan Jr., the son of William Lloyd Rohan and nephew of James Lester Rohan.
Indeed, the photos on the postcard copies you sent are my relatives. I really appreciate the effort, time, research and money you spent to contact me. I leave a fairly small footprint so the real mystery is how you found me! Iggy is to be congratulated! I have a brother, Joseph and a sister Barbara, both married/children and live in WA state.
I just got off the phone with my 91 year young Aunt Marie, the surviving sister of William Lloyd and James Lester Rohan. She lives in St. Paul along with numerous children, grandchildren, etc.. I am forwarding your correspondence to her; she is thrilled to share it with her children. I encouraged her to share some anecdotes with you if she feels up to it. You are welcome to share any of this on 'Full Circle'.
Again, thank you. I hope this reply serves to bring a sort of completion for your efforts.
Sincerely,
Will
Marie called one day with her address and the Postcards were mailed.

I hope that Marie has received the postcards.  Sometimes people get busy and forget to notify me that the photos arrived.  I am certain she must have gotten them or she would have called me back!
Thanks for stopping by!

Full Circle 89

This is another photo that found it’s way home after an online search.  A message was left on the blog.

Laporte Emma Bohuslavicky

Photo Number 236

On the back of this card it has this writing.  "Does she look like a farm girl, her name is Emma Bohuslavicky."

This photo was originally posted on June 28, 2010

James left this message on July 21, 2014

I am pretty sure this is a picture of my Great-Great Grandmother (How many Emma Bohuslavicky's can there be in Texas?). I am related to her through Anna, her youngest. Thank you for posting this!

I offered to mail the photo…after I finally found it…my filing system leaves a lot to be desired.

It would be pretty cool to have the picture.  My Grandfather on that side of the family passed away earlier this year, so his belongings are being divided up amongst the family.  My also deceased grandmother was very into genealogy, so I was looking through her files and decided to run some of the names through google to see what I could come up with, which is how I came across this photo.

It would be great if I could have the picture to include in her files.  I think I will likely be in charge of her files and the family genealogy from now on, so it would be nice to add something.

On July 30 2014 James wrote:

Hi Connie,

Just wanted to let you know I received the picture a couple days ago.

I will check the old files my grandmother made, see if I can come up with anything interesting about her to write up.

Thanks again.

James

If James sends along  more information I can always add it.

Thanks for stopping by!

Full Circle 88

Sometimes when people are doing online research the run into a photo of their relatives…such is the case with this photo.  A message was left on the blog and I answered.

Margaret and Theresa kiel DL Ant Number 1579

 Photo Number 1579

Theresia Keil (Hommerding) is my Great Grandmother and Margaret Keil (Hommerding) is her sister! They both married brothers. (I recognize their faces from my great parents' wedding photographs!) I was in the process of collecting photographs (on-line searches) of my ancestors and was excited to find this treasure!
Theresia Keil born 1 Jun 1886 in Luxemburg Township MN / married Math Hommerding 3 Sept 1911
Margaret Keil born 8 Aug 1899 / married Michael Hommerding 8 Sept 1915
Would you be able to send me this exact photo without "Forgotten Old Photos" on it? (The man in the photo could be my great grandfather Math Hommerding . . . however, he wore glasses.) I'm so excited !
Thanks! Sherri

I mailed the original postcard to Sherri.  She was kind enough to share a bit about her Great Grandmother!

Photo Number 1579 -posted May 22, 2014-from left to right:
Margaret Keil (born 1889) married Michael Hommerding on 8 Sep 1915.  The couple had 8 children. Margaret died in 1978.
Georg Keil (born 1891) married Elizabeth Stein.  Georg died in 1958.
Theresia Keil (Born 1886) married Math Hommerding on 3 Sep 1911.  The couple had 6 children.  Theresia died in 1960.
Margaret, George and Theresia Keil are the children of John Georg and Louise Toenjes Keil.

Memories of Theresia Keil Hommerding contributed by Theresia’s youngest daughter: August 2014
(Theresia is the young woman on the right side of the photo.)

Theresia Keil was born June 1st 1886 on a farm in Saint Nickolas, Stearns County, Minnesota to John Georg and Louise Toenjes Keil.  She was the oldest of 8 children.  She married Math Hommerding on September 3, 1911.  She made her own wedding dress.  (She is wearing this dress in the real photo postcard: Photo Number 1579 -posted May 22, 2014)

Theresia Keil and Math Hommerding owned a farm just outside of Cold Spring, Stearns County, Minnesota.  They had 6 children but lost the 2nd child, George, when he was 5 months old. She had her 6th child, a daughter, a week before she turned 46 years old.
She was a very hard worker--very strict but also good hearted.
She would get up early to work on the farm.  She would go to the chicken coop with a lantern and later appear from behind the barn with a fork full of straw on her shoulder for the chickens’ nests.  She would then help her husband milk the cows.
She liked to sew, always making aprons on her treadle machine.  She would cut circles in pieces of material and put elastic around them which made them into caps.  She always wore these caps when she went outside.  She made a bedspread out of flour sacks and sewed them together with silk thread.  This spread is a treasured family heirloom.
When her youngest daughter was a teenager, Theresia, her husband Math and daughter left their farm and moved into town (Cold Spring, Minnesota).  When her youngest daughter worked at the town’s grocery store, Theresia would always make her daughter skirts and aprons to wear every day.
Theresia loved going to movies; she and her youngest daughter would go to a show every week.  They would walk to the movie house while, Math, would go play cards at a neighbor’s service station.
When Math took his wife and their youngest daughter shopping in Saint Cloud, the mother and daughter would always go to Kruger’s to enjoy a sundae.
During the latter years of her life, Theresia suffered from the effects of Alzheimer’s.  She passed away in 1960 at the age of 74 years.  (Her husband, Math Hommerding, passed away in 1987.  He lived to be almost 96 years old.)

Thanks Sherri!  I love it when we can learn more about the people in the old photos!

This is an old photo that is not very good quality.  I purchased it because it reminded me of a childhood memory.  When I was little there was a place along Washington Avenue in Detroit Lakes Minnesota that had kiddie rides, a train ride and boats in a big water tank going round and round.  I remember both of those rides …there may have been more…and ice cream!  It was a permanent place adjacent to a motel and was a real fun place to go on a Sunday afternoon.

This one could be from a similar place or it could have been with a traveling Carnival.

Group with a Dodge or an Overland Soloway antiques
Four men, two women a small boy and a faithful dog.  My Dad thought that the car was a Dodge or an Overland.
Thanks for stopping by.
Update from Iggy's Dad:
The car is a standard "touring" or "tourer" convertible and that most car makers had a model with a body style like this one (including Dodge and Willys Overland). He notes this one has wooden wheel spokes, a curved hood (bonnet), what appears to be a painted black radiator, and that the car is on the small size compared to the boy.

He thinks perhaps it is an earlier model - and thinks Chevy often painted their grills black - so if he had to stick his neck out, he'd go with a 1920-22-ish Chevy model 490 - or perhaps a slightly later model
