  1. I'm trying to imagine being transported through the city in a sophisticated horse and buggy. I'm also reminded of all the carriage houses that still exist today in our very old neighborhoods.

  2. The only H J Whittey I can find lived in Vans Nuys, California and this quote "H. J. Whittey of Los Angeles, Cal was in the city on business yesterday." found in the February 9, 1895 issue of The Wichita Daily Eagle from Wichita, Kansas.

There is a Charles Lewis Weathered (b. May 30, 1893 d. Jun. 19, 1957) in Norwich, Kingman County, Kansas - Find A Grave Memorial# 41521767. Norwich is 35 miles from Wichita.

If this is the right guy (of which I'm not certain!) -- http://obit.bohlenderfuneralchapel.com/obitdisplay.html?task=Print&id=833114 is an obit for his son.

In the Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988, I found:

Charles E Weathered married Emma F Knapp on 4 Dec 1883 in Attleboro, Massachusetts. His parents where Charles C and Maria R - her parents were Randolph and Anna F. Knapp

The 1920 US census shows them living in Providence RI, with him working as Bookkeeper in a Coal Office. Emma's unmarried sister Anna lived with them at the time.

    So I'm not sure --

  3. Good find. Too bad it's aged so badly. Detail in those buildings would have been interesting.

  4. As usual, Iggy's findings sound convincing to me! Too bad the photograph didn't include an imprint for the studio. A geographic reference would have been helpful. Of course, we do have the clue that whoever H. J. Whittey was, he had a son by the same name.

    1. Oh, wonderful! Amazing, as always, Iggy! I had wondered if that surname might have been Whitley, but when I clicked on the close-up, it looked more like Whittey. Glad you found that lead on Find A Grave.

  6. Pretty positive that the JH Whitley Jr. You are referencing is my Grandfather. I would love to get a copy of this picture if we could work it out. Thanks
