This is a snapshot from the antique shop in Duluth Minnesota.
My Dad said that the car is a 1949 Chevrolet Coupe. This could be a Northern Minnesota photo…but it also could be a Yellowstone National Park Photo. I remember seeing news footage of cars lined up to feed the bears in the park in the 1950’s.
Thanks for stopping by.
What a great photo.
ReplyDeleteWe had a lot of photos of bears when we went to Yellowstone in 1957. The bears really were everywhere begging for food.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! Talk about close up. Well, there sure wasn't any Justin BIeber ring tone around back then if a bear visit went sideways ;)
ReplyDeleteThat "boxy" trunk sure does look like 1949 Chevy 2 Door Coupe.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they had a pic-ca-nick basket in it!
Since the photo came from Duluth, it's probably northern Minnesota. It was very routine up through the 1950s for northern Minnesota bears to be like this. Resorts would oftentimes have a "pet" bear. We have many pictures of my mother-in-law feeding bears roadside on the Gunflint Trail in the 1930s, and of guests at Bearskin Lodge feeding a bear in front of the lodge in the 1940s. So it wouldn't need to be as far away as Yellowstone.
