Nice old photo. Cute name.
ReplyDeleteA lot of unused background on this one; still the photo is striking.
ReplyDeleteThe photographer was J. C. Slear.

The publisher of that local history newsletter probably knows a descendent.

DeleteI sent an email this evening to Tony, the fellow who wrote the Newsletter.
DeleteThank you for preserving and sharing the photograph of Elizabeth “Lizzie” Burd. Since it has been some time since I wrote the article I had to go back to my December 2009 issue so I could familiarize myself with the Burd family of Swengel, PA. Your website is such a treasure, and what you are doing by preserving these old photographs is such a great gift. Oftentimes I see box lots of old family photographs being sold at public auctions as they have no interest to the younger generation. It is so unfortunate.
DeleteLizzie Burd had four children, and I think that some of her grandchildren might still live in Union County, PA. Perhaps they would be interested in seeing a photograph of their grandmother when she was young. Keep up the good work, and if I can locate any of Lizzie’s descendants I will point them toward your website.
